Guest Honguito
At the moment I have a pair of Sony MDR-V600. I'm considering to buy new headphones that are ultimate for homelistening. What do you recommend?
Guest Alek
Sennheiser HD600 That's what I've got and would fully recommend... a bit pricey tho...
Guest Otto Matta
See this thread about 10 down: Sennheiser You should take a serious look at the Sennheiser HD280pros.
Lemmiwinks
well, from the knowledge I've gathered over the years if you don't mind sacrificicing a few bucks to get a good sound your choice should be among this list: Sennheiser HD-600 (with modded cable... the cable costs as much as the headphones themselves!!) Sony CD-3000 Stax Lambda Pro (these are pricier but are actually cheap for electrostatic phones) Etymotic ER-4P... these are the wierdest of the lot as you are actually supposed to plug them deep into your ear canal... but it seems that in terms of response and lack of distortion it's the best you can get without actually sticking an audio signal to your eardrums AKG K-1000s don't forget that for any of these phones (expect the Staxx) to sound good you'll also need a good headphone amp which is usually even more expensive than the phones themselves!! Otherwise listening to these phones would be like having a Ferrari body with a Ford Focus engine in it... and of course if your dad is named Donald Trump and just died leaving you a fortune, you can't go wrong with Sennheiser Orpheus (price tag... 15.000 USD!!!!) Lemmiwinks
BTW IMO (and most agree) a very good homelistening headphone should be open design, not closed, which would exclude from the beginning the HD-280s and MDR v600s... Closed designs are mainly used for DJing or isolating yourself from external sounds (and others from your music And also, I don't mean to diss you, but most people agree that the MDR V600s are actually one of the WORST phones you can get for the price!! Lemmiwinks
damn it, I always have to male typos in my posts... "expect the Staxx" was supposed to be "except the Staxx" SMI²LE
Guest Kiph T. Elephant
"damn it, I always have to male typos in my posts... " Are you a sexist or something? ;-) Well, lets hope you have some female typos next time. "Closed designs are mainly used for DJing or isolating yourself from external sounds (and others from your music :)" Maybe they are good if you have a very noisy home. ;-)
Lemmiwinks
FUCK!!! I can't believe I've actually made a typo in a phrase where I was complaining about me making typos... I'm really bad at this :-( SMI²LE
Guest Otto Matta
When I owned the Senn 590s, I was always a little self-conscious that everyone could hear exactly what I was listening to. They were loud enough that the neighbors could hear them and were like a very poor set of speakers from the outside. I like the closed design of the 280s better because it's a very personal experience. Kiph - Don't pick on Lemmiwinks. He studied numbers at uni. Guest Kiph T. Elephant
"You misspelled "I"." But that's the artistic way of saying it. Artists don't have to follow the smothering rules of society. I merely follow my muse.

Guest miroslav
I am a big fan of headphones and I can wholeheartedly recommend Ultrasone HFI-650 Trackmaster. They are closed (you don`t disturb others, others don`t disturbe you + lower volume saves your hearing), built tough, have a wonderful, crystal clear, big sound (tight and deeeep bass, rich mids, well defined highs). They have a marvelous soundstage for a closed system so a well produced and recorded tune will make you feel dizzy. Also, they don`t need expensive gear to sound great and raise your love for music to another level. They do not come from a well known mass market producer, but Ultrasone reputation grew strong in a short period of time among both professionals and ordinary music lovers. Don`t miss an opportunity to give them a try if you can. I got them on a blind purchase and never regreted a cent. good luck

Guest tsuki
I use the Sennheiser 590s and they are very nice. the sound is clearer than any other headphone i heard, and the bass is more natural and open.
Guest rx7style
Sennheiser HD590 are very very nice sounding, and cost less than half the price of the HD650's or HD600.
Guest goran
Be sure to check 'Grado' headphones (http://www.gradolabs.com/). I'm just mentioning because I saw a lot of praising on them on the internet. Also, notice the cool old skool desing.
