the goa constrictor
Uhhhh, well this is actually a comp of previously released comp tracks This is not really a single comp of songs from a singular time period/theme. It's more of an anthology. So, this comp is not really relevant with the theme of the thread.

Format: 2 × CD, Compilation As only one release stands to be posted it seems a little unwarranted to suggest that it detours from its own theme! On topic: It is a strange compilation, one disc vastly superior to the other. It's up to the compiler to maintain consistent quality I guess, what you gonna do? the goa constrictor
arrrgg This type of stuff grinds my gears. So here is a true compilation: http://www.discogs.com/Various-XplaNations/release/53390 And here is what would be better described as an anthology: http://www.discogs.com/Various-TIP-The-Story/release/128411 One of them is from a specific year and contains tracks for the purpose of showcasing a specific sound of the label. The other is a broad stroke picture of multiple years of music from the label to highlight everything. Every track is recycled from a previous compilation and it is nothing more than a greatest hits album. They are entirely 02 different types of product and you can't really equate them with one another.
remnant
I can't understand the terms side A/B since it is a compact disc release, a 2 CDs one. It sounds like it's about a tape or a vinyl release. Anyway, in my personal view, this is a nice compilation. The first CD is covering the classic sound, a bit typical but nice, and the second one is covering the emerging (oldschool) progressive style, very nice too. There are other compilations alike or sort of like Dragonfly Classix II, Teleportation or Psyborganic Transmission, or plenty of releases compiling ambient as well. sidetrakkt
It's also pretty much full-on/Goa on cd 1 and progressive/non-"Goa" on cd 2, so the two cds are quite different in style. If you don't like progressive, you probably won't like cd 2; if you don't like full-on you probably won't like cd 1... but seems to be more about your taste than quality of tracks... There are many comps that have dance music on cd 1 and downtempo on cd 2. If you don't like downtempo, it doesn't mean it sucks, it just means it is a different style... So AP, Cosmosis etc. is called "full on" ? I thought it was goa ... Also I started to like progressive since 5-6 years quite a lot, but there is still good and soso stuff in this genre too. like in every genre, isn´t it ? And the CD2 is really "SOSO" (to be polite)
