I only have doubts about this "quipping" - I found that it could mean a "an odd or fantastic action or thing" which would work in the context, but I'm not a native speaker so not really sure. And then it goes "it operates on the same principle that keeps Earth spinning around the Sun and that keeps you from flying off the Earth into the cold reaches of space" Wonder where it's from? Quote
