recursion loop
Does anybody here use this synth? How do you like it, especially for psytrance sounds?Probably I don't need another synth as I have Access Virus and some fine softies, like Spire, Diversion and Massive, but Serum is hugely popular - this must be for a reason. I tried the demo several times, it tends to sound somehow bland, lifeless and thin/harsh, but maybe it requires a special approach to programming? So, your thoughts? Do you have it? For what sounds do you mostly use it?
recursion loop
Seems like not much Serum users here
Padmapani
nope, never heard of it before your post. after reading your post, i also don't think i missed out
recursion loop
This is what it sounds like seems to be one stop solution for this paint-by-numbers psyprog
Padmapani
apparently and even then it sounds a bit lifeless and overly "digital". i just listened to a few other youtube videos with presets and it seems to be good at gritty, harsh sounds. even the bass presets sound mostly agressive and lack warmth... so if it sounds like that for you, it's probably not because you don't yet know how to program it. but the interface looks interesting. theoretically it should be really flexible with the wavetables, so i guess the filter isn't the best or certainly not analogue-modelled. recursion loop
Yes, the filters are its weakest point imo. There are many of them but they sound kinda similar, you can't crank up the resonance like you do in Diva or other good analogue-modelled filter - it quickly becomes harsh and very unpleasant. On the other hand, the two-oscillator FM sounds really good, I'm just trying this as I'm typing This is where softsynths usually suck and Virus rules. The wavetable tweaking also gives some interesting results, but mostly on harsh/ugly/angry side. Seems like hi-tech/darkpsy producers should love it. But it's not an instant gratification synth, and definitely not something I'd pick for the "sweet" sounds. Will dig the demo further.
