Tried several instruments in early years. About 3 years ago i got sucked into the magic of psychedelic trance About 1 1/2 years ago I startet producing my own music. Now i've got a few demos online on soundcloud. antic604 Posted October 18, 2016 Share Posted October 18, 2016 The track with triplets & saxophone was hilarious(ly bad), but otherwise it sounds promising - it's an interesting mix of goa and full-on, but as @RL above said, it really could use some structure: the individual parts sound detached from each other, almost as if they belonged to different tunes. I think more layering would also help, because you have one motif coming after the other, while ideally they should build up, add and complement each other. But good work otherwise, keep on it! So you think, i maybe should introduce a melody(but with lesser notes than later) while some other theme is playing, and when the theme stops, the other one should become more complex? Peace, Ananda Yes, you usually build the tension by adding stuff to the mix - they'd don't necessarily need to be melodies, those can be effects, rhythmic elements, background arpeggios, strings/chords, careful modulation of already existing elements. There's no easy recipe, but simply listen to your favourite tracks and try to understand what makes them special, what musical devices were used to advance the track, to make it exciting. It is pretty difficult, but it's very rewarding when you get it just right Also - and please don't let this discourage you - you're not great with melodies and key-changes (they're very simplistic if not flat out wrong) so I'd focus at this time more on building ambiences, rhythmic patterns, atmosphere. antic604 Posted October 19, 2016 Share Posted October 19, 2016 Ok, few detailed observations: - Inhale - the "extpanded" melodic sequence at 2:57 and 3:04, 3:10 is wrong; but overall this melody is very simplistic - if you decide to hit the same note consecutively, then maybe try to at least make the sound itself changing? add an accent, change the volume envelope, tweak the filter / resonance, etc. also, the initial buildup doesn't really carry any energy somehow, though I agree making good intro is difficult, - Extra Terrestrial - the conga at 0:22 is out of tune with the bass, just like the acid at 0:30 and 0:42-0:55 is hard to listen to because of that; then it gets MUCH better at 1:00 onwards, even though I'm not entirely convinced by the melody entering at 1:56 (e.g. the low notes at the end of sequence at 2:02 and repeated further); the strings at 2:52 (while beautiful!) sound as if they were from completely another tune, like a sloppy DJ-mix, the same with the transition back to bass at 3:30 Hope that helps Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
