Agneton
I guess this must be a side effect of the Vini Vici hype that took over the Trance world by storm earlier this year. (the psytrance kbb is happening around 2:30)And there's this video from his set (note that it's not a Psytrance fest, just a regular EDM fest, that's the biggest difference with the Vini Vici hype which was still somewhat confined within Trance borders):https://www.facebook.com/timmytrumpet/videos/10154169629775943/According to DJ mag top 100 he's the number 75 most popular DJ. On a sidenote, that's one funny artistname
ulmehagen
There is almost no underground in dance music. Not even psytrance-goa, with festivals like boom, ozora, etc, and the things that happen in goa for years.

Not even psytrance-goa, with festivals like boom, ozora, etc, and the things that happen in goa for years. I think it's still quite a leap from EDM mainstream festivals like Ultra or Tomorrowland with newspaper/TV/magazine/radio coverage to an "authentic" Psytrance festivals such as Ozora and the likes. Yes, those Psy fests also thrive on money, publicity, etc. but imho it's still very different from the 'real' commercial deal. Note that I'm not taking sides here (not deploring nor defending these developments), just observing
ulmehagen
The festivals you've mentioned have more audience. That is, basically, the only difference. If I go to any goa / psy party today, I can see myself the next day on youtube, I can see the entire party on youtube ..... is that underground? I'm not taking sides here, even when i dont like that, what you called edm.

Djuna
Funny, last week I wanted to post in a topic that it's the other way around as well: goa has turned EDM... Look how live acts are being done and a lot of people not caring for it as well, at the lack of depth in most music, and especially how production-wise it sounds. Goa isn't underground anymore, for years. Not that a genre NEEDS to be 'underground' to be good, but it attracts a lot of people who don't want to go the distance, who are happy with formalistic music and parties. This happens with any genre that has become popular, and it's up to the people willing to counter that.
antic604
What's Vini Vici? Apparently a psy-trance "artist"... I guess the times of mainstream goa/psy popularity were 20 years ago (1997-99) when you could see it on TV (VIVA, MTV) and radio, some films, there were official videos and radio-edits (3-4min instead of usual 6-8min) were being produced, the parties happened in most popular clubs.
Trunksan
A few years ago it bothered me too. I guess now I'm older, wiser, more cynical and more hard-skinned and I don't give a f@ck. There's still good music, there are still interesting events, look out for them and you'll find them. If you can't find them, get together with a few friends and do it by yourselves. That's my approach and I'm living by it. Nowadays in Athens, a lot of the old Goa crowd (40yo+) are getting back together to organise small events since they are sick of listening to shitty music and being the cash cow for dubious organisers/promoters. Although I'm much younger than them, I'm also a part of this movement and I intend to be much more active in it next year (have a lot of work now, but this will change). Ormion, you are welcome to join! p.s.: Vini Vici is anoter alias of Sesto Sento.
Imba
10 years ago fullon was mainstream, today is progressive... just a new style under Psychedelic genre. There is almost no underground in dance music. Not even psytrance-goa, with festivals like boom, ozora, etc, and the things that happen in goa for years. I believe you have been mistaken about Boom. Yes, it's huge and for that you could say its not underground, but music they serve is mostly underground - Goa, Twilight, Forest - night time music expect few huge proggy names obviously to sell tickets faster. Ozora is different story. IMO you can have 50k people festival and still underground, or you can have party with 500 people and it's mainstream. Numbers doesn't mean anything, but concept and music itself. Now to Goa-heads, everything that is not 90s Goa is mainstream. And that's the problem also. Also it's great you have scene so big = more party, more music, more different styles = something for everyone

Anoebis
Nothing really new imo... I played on Universo Parallello in Brasil 2.5 years ago and honestly, it is a VERY commercial festival that was like 2 drops a regular Belgian EDM Festival like Tomorrowland... Only difference? The great deco and location... But all the rest was pretty much the same! (well, except for mine and 2 other goa sets, the whole line up was proggie or full on...) And well, there is a Psy Trance stage on Tomorrowland! And in the past there were many things like this... In Europe goa/psy is still pretty underground imo, in South/Middle America it is something else, it's like Techno/house here And in Israel you have this too, but you have upperground and underground scene But the freaks like us should not mind... we will always end up on the right festivals (and yes, Boom is a right festival for me, it was amazing this year!)
Magic Trip
All big festivals nowadays are commercial i did not have the opportunity to Go to Ozora fest when was good and a magical festival. there are just a few like Zna Gathering and balkan Goa i would like to go because yet preserved the essense old school goa
ulmehagen
but music they serve is mostly underground a music scene with a big distribution system, online shops, merchandising, big festivals, etc is not underground anymore ... basically begins commercialism here, it comes for sale. thats why i said there is almost no underground in dance music anymore. but thats only my personal view.

With the internet, hardly anything is underground anymore.... except of course for things that are actually underground like basements, tunnels, caves etc and of course things that are illegal.
Aspartic
With the internet, hardly anything is underground anymore... Exactly what I was gonna say. Still, genres like goa are nowhere near mainstream imo. Don't hear it on the radio nor at the commercial grand festivals. Psytrance on the other hand, is getting a way to those stages. But slowly. Still I don't think it will get very popular like that dance shit dj mag top 100 kinda stuff they play at festivals.
HappyHorse
It is especially a very good promo (video): something that starts to infect the goa scene also more and more. Promotion and pure business-attitude. Not really psychedelic music imo in the video btw.
Agneton
Not really psychedelic music imo in the video btw. I agree of course, however the kick/bass is undoubtly inspired on mainstream Prog-Psytrance (such as Undercover, Vini Vici, Blastoyz, etc...). Seems like that "lowest common denominator" is now finding its way in mainstream EDM productions, with mainstream EDM artists referring explicitly to the "Psytrance"-genre (see the title of the track). That's - according to my knowledge - a pretty new evolution. A lot of the other stuff that's been posted here is of course true but seems to be more generally referring to the underground - mainstream status-debate of the actual Psy and Goa-scene. Wasn't necessarily a discussion I intended to start, since it's a recurring topic in a lot of posts, but hey, why not!
Aspartic
It's an evolution I've been watching from far, but I do see some of my former normal trance heroes making psy-influenced hard trance. E.g. Sean Tyas, Activa and even Alex Morph.

I've noticed that as well actually, although I'm not very familiar with post-2010 trance (except for some stuff like Simon O'Shine etc. and the occasional ASOT show check). Lemmiwinks
haha I was just about to post something in the same lines and saw this Yep indeed, psytrance is "in" once again. KSHMR is pretty big and he basically does goa-influenced EDM and lately there is this track that is getting more and more airtime on daytime radio in these parts... yes, psytrance on DAYTIME commercial radio! Who would've though that day would come? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NejMwMeZyag Well ok, to tone down things a bit let's not forget that most of the golden days goatrance period ALSO saw (not-so) underground producers like AP - People Can Fly or MWNN - Teleport on mainstream dance shows... which is how many people in the 90s hear of goatrance in the first place.
