Void Mantra
Truth be told, I discovered the "psytrance" scene very recently (about a year ago). That was when I first listened to Converting Vegetarians by Infected Mushroom* (sorry for the mistake in the title), which was warmly recommended by a colleague. At that time being an underground metal type of guy, I didn't think much of it. It finally clicked on further listening, headphones on and boy did it kicked hard. Still to this day I enjoy this album very much. I know this band doesn't have the best of reputation here, but why??
Anoebis
Many think they are too commercial and they left their roots... but for me? Special place in my heart... The Gathering and Classical Mushroom were like a fantastic fresh breeze when they were released in a desert of boring releases! (and yes, cd2 of converting vegetarians as well)
Trunksan
Around 2000 they were the biggest act in the scene. Their first releases (first 3 albums) were simply SUPERB, people loved them (I certainly did). After converting vegeterians it all went downhill and on top of that, not-so-knowledgable-about-electronic-music people think that this is Psytrance or Goa (brrrrr I literally shivered when I wrote this). It's the same like any rock or metal legend that goes downhill and produces shitty music. First name that comes in mind is Richie Blackmore of Deep Purple and Rainbow. Compare that output with Blackmore Knights. It's a disgrace! Edit: I went to Youtube and listened to 5 secs of Blackmore nights.... I wanted to puke.
Richpa
Personally I don't hate them, I just find their older stuff more appealing to my musical taste. As Jos said, The Gathering and Classical Mushroom are one of the most influental albums in psytrance genre and I think anyone who is interested into this kind of music, should at some point check thoose classics. On the other hand, the new stuff is different and doesn't have a lot in common with psychedelic trance, but that doesn't mean it's bad or something, it's just different and probably more suitable for wider spectrum of audience.
the goa constrictor
It's like GMS or Shpongle, it's not that they're terrible, it's that they are entirely overrated Plus, their fans and agents can be tools: http://goaconstrictor.com/infected-mushroom/
Void Mantra
Humm I see. So, to you guys, everything post Vegetarians are music for the masses, not worthy of their first 3 records? Absolutely no love for their new stuff? (Keep in mind, the only album I know well is CV, don't know too much about the rest.)
Ormion
I don't hate them. I'm just sad to see a legendary group with some of the best tracks of all time to go full shit. I mean they went from this to this

Void Mantra
Damn. If that latest clip's representative of the new IM, harsh criticisms are 100% justified I must say...

Absolutely no love for their new stuff? (Keep in mind, the only album I know well is CV, don't know too much about the rest.) not to all of us. except for the gathering, i like one track from bp empire and one from classical mushroom. the rest is just not that good in my opinion. i don't understand the craze about infected at all. so to me it's no big loss that they sold out.
Padmapani
Damn. If that latest clip's representative of the new IM, harsh criticisms are 100% justified I must say... the newer albums have more and more tracks in the same vein. thankfully the psy community has come to the conclusion that this is not psytrance. but ten years ago those tracks were actually played at parties (because infeted were considered to be big heroes due to their earlier output). when that was the case i really hated them. actually i still hold a bit of a grudge — they were the first to really bring commercial pop music elements into psytrance and many copied them, leading to a huge wave of horrible fullon. that development was probably happening anyway but infected were at the forefront and became exemplary for the commercialisation of psytrance.
Void Mantra
Listening Vicious Delicious right now; borderline unbearable...can't believe what I'm hearing. I'm curious what you guys think of Juno Reactor? They too deviated greatly from their original psytrance/goa formula and still I consider they utter fucking legends and highly regard their entire discography; past and new. the goa constrictor
Juno Reactor is God. There is no other. Juno live with Amanpondo was amazing. While Juno's music evolved, they were always evolutionary (in a good way). Luciana, Transmission, Beyond the Infinite, Bible of Dreams... The ongoing continuation of their music, while not always my cup of tea, is still something i support and i would love to see them live again. To me, it's not about people embracing stuff beyond "psytrance," it's about whether or not any of it is good. I love vocals and cheesy pop music. Infected Mushroom were frustrating because tracks like the Intelligate/Small Moves 12" offer so much promise and groove and they rarely captured that magic again. They lucked out with a few great proper jams, but overall, they missed the mark more than they hit it. Juno was a machine of perfection for albums in a row

They too deviated greatly from their original psytrance/goa formula and still I consider they utter fucking legends and highly regard their entire discography; past and new. they do their own thing, regardless of if it's considered to be psy or not. they simply don't care about genre boundaries. again there are a few really good tracks while i don't like the rest. but i have lots of respect for juno reactor: instead of selling out and making music because it sells i think they are just following their own vision. Ormion
I've never liked Juno Reactor, but despite being goa pionners they were never a goa/psytrance exclusive group. They cross a lot of genres.
Trunksan
Juno Reactor are superb! Except for the Gods & Monsters album I like most of their stuff!
mike.54
They're going back to psytrance roots. Here is latest single from upcoming album!
recursion loop
I think Vicious Delicious is very fun actually, ofc it is not trippy or spiritual or whatever but catchy, melodic, extremely well produced and has certain futuristic vibe I find very appealing. It contains some really horrible singing, but it is done in a kind of "so bad that it is even good" manner so I actually like the vocal tracks too except for one, don't remember how it is called, which is some sort of pop ballad (and I even like that hip-hop track!). After VD they went downhill but not because of "commercialization" but because they run out of interesting ideas and good melodies. I don't listen to IM too often now, but I still rate them above many "serious" psy acts
Colin OOOD
It's like if Kurt Cobain didn't take the only honest way out, but instead went on to be a judge on X-Factor.

Kai-Q
I not hate IM, but I don't like their stuff which sounds more pop like music, I call it poppish Psy-Trance and this are lost of their stuff, which they made it in the last time. My favorite album is their first one ”The Gathering”. Classical Mushroom and B.P. Empire are good too.On the other hand what I not really like is CD2 from “Converting Vegetarians”.For me they are only some tracks okay. But I don't like the ones with the vocals. The singing sounds like tried but failed or just simply annoying. Anyway, I don't like mainly no femal vocals. For some time past is the sound of the israeli psy-trance, generally too poppish for me. Not all, but many things. Yeah they experiment to try to create something new, this is okay. But if the final result sounds a way too commercial or annoying for me, than I lost my interest and I'm looking for some other stuff, which suits my taste. Is like In Strict Confidence, an german Industrial/EBM Project. The first stuff is really great, but later turns this project more to an pop like project.

psytones
I can never hate something I have loved so much. So in all evolving agony, i always find something inside somewhere that I like, and also in ways appreciate. Disinfected Mushroom -D Since 2000, i was very unaware of how much influences they had from legends of the goascene, which is Fine. I also since a year around the time UrbanBeats;) decided to remove me from his facebookfriends list did not know how also because of reality that maybe, might, IM not saying but its not that unlikely also from a wholeness view - you hear what you "want" that *puff-puff* tracks like Relase Me, is ..politically terrofying, Gaza, neighbours ..shivering shiva. Then again, the 3rd album give us Kadafi (dont take shit too serious or you'll miss out on the good shit.. or smth like that Over e. speaking of war ~,~ : / https://beatspace-manicdragon.bandcamp.com/album/cpc-double-bouble-manic-dragon-recordsb-| inspired by his grandfather ( excuse me for sharing) Edited October 31, 2016 by psytones
antic604
Yeah, like a lot of people here I don't really *hate* them (they gave us - at least - 3 awesome albums!) but I'm just sad and disappointed in the direction they chose to take their music - they could have produced some more of the wonderful, inventive and psychedelic music, instead they chose to appeal to the masses by incorporating rap, singing and guitars. It's the definition of missed opportunity or a wasted talent. Good for them, bad for (most of) us.
thanosp81
They gave us some really good tunes? Aren't they allowed to make some money?
