Meltwater
This made me chuckle/cringe. Vini Vici is really giving psy a bad name.
Themaniac
Still dunno why they formed Vini Vici from Sesto Sento. It's not like they are producing anything different, sounds the same.
mars
It's not the first time for A.Van Buuren I think Psytrance is professionalizing a lot and getting a lot of traction, There is probably a mutual interest in that and to be honnest trance and psytrance have almost reached convergence Vini Vici vs Sesto Sento to me is due to: - One member less - Teenager project vs Adult project - Need to get into the Israeli pseudo-progressive train
Starkraver
what the fuck is that. Yuck! I listened till the 40th second till the time tui tui sounds came & I feel the urge to listen to some real psychedelic music now. I'll go blast some Jikkenteki. It's just sad. So many talented guys have left the scene and then there are these :/
Meltwater
I mean, it's got the modern psy rolling bassline but that's it. And I complain about stuff like Lyctum not being psychedelic...if this is the new normal I won't ever do that again. Still dunno why they formed Vini Vici from Sesto Sento. It's not like they are producing anything different, sounds the same. I didn't know Vini Vici and Sesto Sento were related. That's interesting. Themaniac
The 4/4 and rolling bass is hardly the norm for psy.. There's so much more to it.
Padmapani
The 4/4 and rolling bass is hardly the norm for psy.. There's so much more to it. sadly, still many of those producing commercial "psy" music just take anything, slap a rolling bassline underneath and call it psytrance. vini vici aren't the first to do this (and neither was sesto sento), but i find their music completely dull with literally nothing interesting happening besides some kbbb. it's really strange when you catch yourself thinking "i'd rather listen to neelix than this crap" i cannot understand why they (or more accurately their remixes) are all over the internet. i get the impression that 50% of all track id requests (execpt those here on psynews) are for some shitty vini vici remix.

Gresham's law. Vini Vici's track is the same length, uses the same notes and same frequency ranges that say Son Kite, Jaja, or (why not) Ticon and serves exavtly the same purpose; but it's of much lesser quality. Hence, it's more of it in circulation
recursion loop
Anything that brings more melodic and sonic variety into psytrance is welcome. Some of the psy/normal trance crossovers are just awesome in my book (Digicult). Having thus said, I can hardly stand anything Vini Vici and this track is no expecption but it is not because because they are cheesy or sold out but because they make boring music.
Meltwater
The 4/4 and rolling bass is hardly the norm for psy.. There's so much more to it. Yeah there's more to it but rolling bass has easily supplanted any other bassline as the norm in the last 5 years or so. This is true whether you're talking about Liquid Soul or Lyctum or Electric Universe these days. The only thing that might be more common is single-note basslines in triplets. There should be more to it, of course. I want there to be.

JISNEGRO
What amazes me is that it seems they indeed studied in detail, and tried as hard as they could, to stick to the "perfect psytrance" formula
recursion loop
This LOUD track never ceases to amaze me, I think it is produced much better than the track in the OP actually.

Padmapani
(why not) i see what you did there the difference is that the other manage to create some atmosphere and tell a story (even if it's sometimes a boring one). vini vici is just the bare "formula for prog" without anything else. maybe what sets it apart is that their kick is extra-loud (and there are no other elements to distract from it)? but then again why don't those people just listen to some techno where the kick is even more in the foreground? SixZeroFou4
How do you know how much money the others have? Also, how can you tell how successful the other forumers are? Usually when you have enough time to hate the way they do mixed with the level of judgmental mindsets.. that's usually not a recipe for success. Plus I can mention armin to most Edm fans and they recognize the name.. not the case for the others. Bro I'm a big fan and promoter of positive vibes and if they were present here than it would be different but here we have a classic hate fest. Scandinasia
Well, it's not that bad. It's commercial and very extremley formulaic/unoriginal, but it does the show. Cheap is good sometimes. Moreover, that's the kind of stuff that make people want to dig into more serious psytrance. After all, I myself first listened to extremely cheap commercial trance (Van Buren stuff, euro trance, Israeli full-on) before getting into regular, and then into the most obscure and underground parts of the scene. Imba
It's a 'Future Prog' as they call it... kick and bass mostly, Schmeisser-like sounds lol They really follow trends and stick to them, gated vocals, shamans, oriental styles combined with kick bass is what people want so they deliver it. Why to make underground psytrance or goa and get couple hundreds euros per gig only, flight with Ryan Air when you can have 5k per gig and first class or charter flights? It's very simple actually. It's simply business. Good money and everything that comes with it. Scene today is more like mafia or corporations or is it same? You have some huge known agenciens and some that stay in shadow with loads of money and investements. They made one 'good' track and became 'face of psytrance' over night just like that? Psytrance is business This is the 'future' lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDIoPN9DKp4

It's simply business. Good money and everything that comes with it. S Like we have a shortage of decent "underground" goa and psy... The track is kind of repetitive/predictable, but it's psy with all the standard elements like pitch fx, rolling bass, gate fx, exotic chant. The Native American vocals are more original than the typical Indian chant found in the most psy/goa... Armin is probably just a rich monkey, but at least he didn't jump on the melodic electro house bandwagon like the rest of the commercial trance producers. In the end if he makes more psy, more kids will discover the alternative trance sounds... (BTW, I'm not sure why many people think the tribal chants are less authentic form of expression for psy trance than the cliche "psy farts", "fm leads/fx" or the "phrygian arpeggio/melodie"...)
