Lightforce Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Hi everyone, About two years ago, I discovered an underground style of House called "Witch House". A style strongly influenced by Industrial Music, Dark Ambient and Hip Hop chopped and screwed. Currently, it's one of the darkest music styles I've been given to hear, any kind of music confused. Usually I rarely listen to House but I find it quite atypical, fascinating and sometimes even hypnotic compared to other House styles. What do you think about it ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3771eNVXkos http://blvckceiling.bandcamp.com/track/i-might-be http://wowbobwow.bandcamp.com/track/whenuwannadie 1 Quote
the goa constrictor Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 I've got a lot of friends who love this stuff I'm into it. I like the weird way that the artists write their names. It's fun, playful, and gothic. 1 Quote
Lightforce Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 Have you any favorites one ? Quote
XoArK Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 (edited) I've heard that genre kinda died off, but people still make it. I kinda like some tracks of the style, but the main problem with this genre is that it is difficult to identify a track if it is in that genre. The coherency reminds me of breakcore. The reason the artists use unicode symbols is because they want to keep the scene underground and make it more difficult to search them up on google. Edited December 10, 2016 by XoArK Quote
the goa constrictor Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Have you any favorites one ? No, I don't really listen to it. My friends do. But when they play it, I'm generally into it, unlike other stuff they'll sometimes play. Quote

Yes, I also read that some time ago on the internet. I kinda like some tracks of the style, but the main problem with this genre is that it is difficult to identify a track if it is in that genre. The coherency reminds me of breakcore. Like Synthwave with its multiple sub-styles (Vaporwave, Darksynth, Darkwave,...etc). It's a recurring problem of the electronic music stage but we can also find this derivative in the Rock/Metal one or more moderately in the Hip Hop one. 1 Quote
Psyduck Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Wow I remember this stuff. I think I liked the aesthetics more than the music, but there was some good stuff too! One of my all time favorites is U N I S O N. Quote
antic604 Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Damn, I thought this is about Hansel & Gretel and the house the witch lived in: But the music sure sounds intriguing! Quote
acid being Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 I've just discovered this genre myself, only hearing one track so far and liking it. I've been looking for music that has a bit more going on than most of the dark ambient, less heavy than most industrial but darker than most psybient. Maybe this genre will help with that. Quote
