Padmapani
hey everyone let me continue the yearly tradition of starting a thread about the downtempo releases of the past year. it seems i'm not the only one who doesn't know enough good releases to fill all 10 spots on the "best of 2016" voting thread. so let's try to fill in the blanks and make sure we haven't missed some great album or compilation. so feel free to list any psy downtempo release from 2016 that you find interesting. my favourites so far are: Globular - Holobiont Protondita - Ciel Astronaut Ape - Unknown Sector VA - Floating Spirals

Blubber
wow - now this is a sad thread... time to add few releases... Hedflux - Soul Science this came as a nice surprise. i enjoyed his psychedelic tech-funk sounds, although it became a lil bit samey through time. here he explores classic electronica and downtempo moods, and while nothing here stands out as a pioneer the whole gives good chills, thanks to its gentle techy atmosphere and beat variation Kaminanda - The Infinite Breath this guy is outstanding. his soundimagery and storytelling is unmatched in my opinion. i know of no bad track and this is no exception. although i have to say that his earlier releases had more hook for me. if you never paid attention, give this a shot, you might be surprised

psytones
I gotta say. I feel lucky to have struck such a release when for 2016 Ive listened to not so many downtempo releases. Even rarer is that I have listened to the Ultimae rec. cataloge (ever growing), so when I did that a few weeks ago and by scrolling through their releases (images and titles/artits names on bandcamp) I hit the Far & Off and ...yeah. Felt a jackpot https://ultimae.bandcamp.com/album/far-off-24bits*love the deep combo of IDM and Ambient in the quality approach Ultimae is known for. Paul Eye
Is it just me or do most recent Ultimae releases sound pretty much the same? Feels like it's the same clicky IDM downtempo over and over again. A bit like the majority of Altar records releases that's the same slowed down clinical kbbb prog over and over again no matter what artist you're listening to.
psytones
The ocean man, the ultimae ocean may seem the same, but when you dive in to it ....,. It's all water and corals, right.. No, I'm no Ultimae expert and own few releases my self (Distances, and now Far & Off), + i've bought the Movement CD and the World Of Sleepers Vinyl (blood music) to my brother last years, whos taste is a bit more, refined then mine. We all ,,know" Ultimae and it boils down to the mood of the tastebuds maybe. Anyway I have a lot of Ultimae to catch up on listening wise. Aint it a wonderful world with much choice..As a listener, tripper and a DJ I'd easily imagine one can experience nice worlds floating through a Ultimae universe for a while, only. dj only ~,~ For me the pleasure of now returning to listening through the Ultimae cataloge came to me one night recently where I didnt know what to listen to..... So it became chance (ultimae has always been in the back of my mind, never forgotten just kinda put on hold, moshi moshi). For me Ultimae delivers a well balanced journey that doesnt have "too much" dub bass, or psymbient beats, or shpongly sounds, and isn't too much etnical like Interchill is i.e.. This is especially the case for me with the two albums I now own. I love their album journeys. Feels like mature but not too dry proper modern ambient music. Last night I scrolled through the bandcamp again and with a halfopen eye ended up on "Unyt" by Scann-Tec. Also good. I think my next actual buy from ultimae will be a Circular album. Ive gone through them a few times over the past 2 years because of ( .. ) and have enjoyed much, so I might as well pay my support and own it.PS. Because of this wonderful forum, i sometimes search for Steve Roach ambient mixes and feel the relaxed joy it gives me. If you or anyone wanna recommend smth ambient - please do. Is it just me or do most recent Ultimae releases sound pretty much the same?Feels like it's the same clicky IDM downtempo over and over again. ive noticed this comment before from people. *sorry i wrote a lot to your quote but donno smth happen when I posted it and this link below replaced my text : / World Of Sleepers

psytones
I guess it depends on where you dive, but isnt the ocean full of IDM clicky sounds? If not from human made electricity things like seaport (clickclicklcikclcik), surely the ocean is full of ॐ IDM.. In Depth Music Intelligent Deep Music Intelligent Device Music. Who coined to use the Intelligent Dance Music label anyway, was it Aphex Twin? No. he never liked it wikipedia reads.ive always agreed to that IDM in its popular "Dance" wording, has detailing in the abstract that makes the mind, dance. I love the IDM sprinkle in Far & Off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y-Y4BUtadc&list=PLQRdBB64rkje8AZxbT41b5dnazBZN_LkS&index=5x Edited February 23, 2017 by psytones
