Psynews "Best of 2016" Results

For me, I bought a lot of downtempo / chill stuff last year, but 95% was released prior to 2016 and not strictly psy-chill, so I indeed struggled with voting in this category.

Then this WINNER album becomes the irony of your joke! *an album of residdent evil scenarier in its story telling.. A concept album. I played the whole album in my old appartment in the middle of a capital city. Doing that, playing a full album out the window (backyard, but still) for sure makes you concider how good the album actually is heard from many varieble ears. Why? I was testing a bluetooth soundsystem I was promised would last 5 hours full power. It didnt. It lasted about 2 hours. Good sound thouugh, impressive. It was Onyx Studios 3

Thats a very nice review Antic:) - the first half of it was better then the last (I think the overall homage to OTT/Shpongle is nice and respectful, and all the singing and chanting (that i agree is a tad too much according to personal taste) is cute/charming and feels local and meaningfull to the artist/town..), but still on. Here's x-ing that you will write a good (questionable?) review of IM's new soup. Man, that Manipulator .. I bet the whole album is just full of singing.

The City Of Moons took a well deserved #1.

The downtempo section is a sad affair indeed, barely any votes this year, oh well.

I'm glad it won. I was back-and-forth between UX and Morphic Resonance, and ended up leaving UX at #1. I enjoyed both so much.

Tastes are different of course. For me, Morphic Resonance was huge. Suntrip never released anything close to the dark/sleek edginess, and grandiose-ness (dark goa wise) as City of Moons IMO. Kudos to the artist and Suntrip for making (and getting out there) this radical gem. Here's hoping the second tops the first (no weaker songs!) and is the magnum opus it has potential to be. No rush!

I would have added Max Million - Monogramma to my downtempo if I knew about it earlier. This is great moody stuff (attached). Just wow, bring on the LP or sequel LP. Beautiful work.

Here's x-ing that you will write a good (questionable?) review of IM's new soup. Man, that Manipulator .. I bet the whole album is just full of singing.

I actually like the album a lot and there's very little "singing". Stylistically it's between "Classical Mushroom" and "B.P.Empire", obviously more advanced technically - if one doesn't mind glitch / dub-step stuff - and is strong musically, in the way that only they know how to do. The combination of technical proficiency, touching emotional musical parts and ...keeping Duvdev under wraps really pays of and I hope they'll continue down that path.

Also, I find it weird that people have issues with singing in their music, as e.g. "Dracul" had that terrible "Na na, na na na na nahhh..." part, which is 100x more annoying than anything on the new album

Jumping to conclusions much? Personally I prefer singing to hymning / chanting, because I associate the latter with drunk college bros or soccer hooligans and their primitive 'fun' which admittedly I didn't had much of

Yeah Dracul is totally fun drunk (shrooms or not) hanging over eachother shoulders waving arms "singing", cheering. Ive maybe had too much fun Getting more ,,boring" though, no worries. Peace'n Love. e. Im sorry about your chant"" asscosiation btw. I get your collage hooligan referance/vibe.. but thats not where that track or section was, or is for me.
