psylophyta Posted July 7, 2017 Share Posted July 7, 2017 I would like to offer immense thanks to the Neogoa crew, who have provided us over the years with their free releases. I was just listening to some of their albums that I have collected over the years, and got some major satisfaction and positive vibes from the music that came out a few years ago (back in 2015), which I didn't pay much attention to at the time. gfp1 Posted July 16, 2017 Share Posted July 16, 2017 many thanks to neogoa records and the contributing artists for keeping the vibe alive with this awesome free release! massive appreciation for the FLAC version available as well. i'm curious what people think of the mastering on this compilation? some of the previous neogoa releases were mixed in a sharper more aggressive manner that sometimes when removing my headphones my ears would be ringing, but this one seems to be very gently mastered to maintain a good dynamic range throughout. this makes it easier for extended listening, but the bass doesn't quite have as much power or punchiness. though i'm sure there are some people who want to listen as pure and neutral of an experience of possible, future listens may require some EQ tweaking on my part to bring out more of the lows to get into that hypnotic level trance. then again, i'm not sure if this is due to the mastering, or the artists choosing to move towards a more analog sounding, old school aesthetic. overall, this is some complex, high quality stuff that merits having a session with while enhanced. I can't say for each neogoa release bc maybe 50% of them were mastered by me (like this one), and I tend to keep as much of dynamics as possible, but to sound reasonably... not too quiet. For the second part, it also really depends on the quality of the production. Some guys releasing their stuff are really newbies (or they just don't care...) and it's hard to polish smt like that. Also it's always harder to balance everything out on compilations as you have bunch of artists...each with a different approach to mix etc. On this particular compilation, more than 50% of the tracks had good production and decent mixdowns (which is actually very good for this music genre!) to start with! 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
