Guest zee-werp
Hey everyone There are a few songs that I am thinking of making some psytrance remixes of. I'm taking about non-trance / electronic songs, for instance there is a Perfect Circle song that I want to remix etc. and maybe a bit of old school jazz, just whatever, I want to play around. But the thing is I know really fuck-all about remixing stuff into a trance track. So I was wonding if any of you can suggest some good remixed tracks you've heard that I could find and have a listen to, just so that I can get an idea for the different techniques etc. used when remixing. I've heard a few cool ones at some recent parties but I was too twisted really to be able to tell how it was made. But it really inspired me to try it out myself. So any suggestions would be cool! Hels
I don't think I've ever heard a good crossover psy remix... Best I've heard is Voodoo People remix by Eskimo...pretty catchy anyway...
Guest zee-werp
The stuff I've been hearing hasn't been imported but rather just what the local DJ's have been playing with (I live in New Zealand). They have done a few nice ones but a few really shit ones as well. I just find it interesting to trance out to these remixes. For instance there was a really good one done with some Nirvana song and hearing it in a rave setting really brought out some different meanings in the lyrics. Guest perro andaluz
A psy rmx of Bjork's Violently Happy would be cool and a lot of fun I think. Other suggestions: Lard-Forkboy Depeche Mode-Never let me down again The Cure-A Forest (goa mix) Siouxie and the Banshees-Rhapsody Strapping Young Lad-Detox Faithless-Insomnia
Lemmiwinks
"I don't think I've ever heard a good crossover psy remix..." I second that. Making a psy remix of a well-known track is just a commercial gimmick to get people who weren't in the psy scene a few years ago like your stuff. I mean I once even heard a psy remix of the theme from the A-team for crying out loud!! What's next? A psy remix of the theme from Beverly Hills 90210? The only thing that works for me is playing some part of a well-known horror movie soundtrack in a dark psy track (not a remix, just have a part of the track remind you of the movie... that can really fuck you up on an acid trip SMI²LE
Quark
The best psyremix I have ever heard is the Paranormal Attack remix of Voodoo People by Prodigy. They really kept the Prodigy feeling IMO.. I remember it was at a friends house where we were partying.. Take care now, bye bye then!! Quark-

Basilisk
they suck so hard... but if we go back a few years you will find the wonderful 'license to slink' by slinky wizard, and that is a real psychedelic treat. anyone heard kino oko's take on whole lotta love? at least that doesn't try to be anything it ain't... Guest zee-werp
Why is it that you guys think they suck so much? The way I look at it is, in the world of music, there is a LOT of quality psychedelic sounds being produced that are outside of the trance / electronica genre. The goal here is to take some of these songs and make them into a format that is more suited to a dance party. I can see how some people might find stuff like that to be cheesy, perhaps, and especially if it was done badly. But I think if its done well a remix of a non-psy song can be a bit of fun and it really can make you appreciate the psychedelic nature of other types of music.
