Guest Zyggy
I'm on the verge of releasing an album (onnomon: no monno), later this month. The dreamer inside is hoping that i'll move a thousand copies. The pessimist is saying that I won't even get a distributer and i'll be stuck boxes of CDs. Basically I sticking on the website (and the CD package itself) a message to the extent that if you really enjoy the music, and you have a CDR copy, you can always make an artist donation, whatever amount you want, and that's fine with me. I've concluded that since not everyone has the same level of interest, they're fudiciary responsibility should vary too. Collectors might want to pay the 10 or so dollar/euros for the digipak CD, really casual listeners won't donate anything, a few in middle will deposit some modest amount. At least you can copy the music decide if you like and contribute whatever you want with no moral wrath on my part. Naturally, my personal goal is to be able to throw 110% of myself into the music without the distractions of a demanding slave job, not to get "financially rich"; i think most artists feel the same. Anyway, because I have day/slave job I can actually afford to put this thing out. But I think the observation is correct, there are tons of psy-related releases every month and a very limited listenership/dancership/mothership. That why I like the "try before you buy" approach. Perhaps in a couple of years they'll balance out. much fun, dean
khogg
That's a good attitude. Good luck to you.
Guest Subatomic
1 This scene is flooded with bad releases, half ass tries at Full-on with the same instruments as the other ( no real innovation). 2 The distribution is quite bad, there is only one shop in Holland for psy and it has a small part of all releases. 3 Downloading has become a fact of music rather than it's demise. You are able to listen a track before you buy the album. The problem being that most tracks I have on my HD are from albums I cannot get here ( for instance the new Shulman) But seriously people, I do like Full-on but whats the use of making 100+ tracks with the exact Virus presets, etc etc. It's like 100+ variations of the same song and the problem is labels release them! Psytrance used to be in front of other genres in terms of musical innovation, use of new instruments etc.... Now it's just lagging behind
