Lemmiwinks
So I just get the compil Usual Suspect VoL2. I liked the 1st one, found it was pretty refreshing so I thought that logically this should sound refreshing too. (BTW doesn't it stike everyone as a least a bit odd that the 1st volume contained various colaborations of Simon P and that the 2nd doesn't a a single track with Simon P involved?) Anyway, what really pissed me off is that ALL the songs follow the same formula: 1. tracks last a bit more than 7 minutes (mostly 7:30) 2. from 0:00 to around 5:00 nothing much happens, just a big rolling bassline with some random "wooshes" here and there 3. around 5:00 to 5:30 : everything slows down, bassline stops 4. 5:30 to 6:30 : loud roling bassline starts again, a lot of sounds are thrown into your face, sometimes even a little melody 5. after 6:30: things slow down again, end of track. Now this SUCKS when it's used REPEATEDLY in EVERY FUCKING SONG!!!!!! SMI²LE
Guest perro andaluz
I think you got mixed up Lemmi It seems that the first compilation you're talking about is UNusual Suspects on twisted and the one you got is the Solstice compiled by Dimitri. Anyway, I agree that this formula prevails in everything that is released nowadays and it sure is fucked up...The artwork also sucks bigtime now, I mean it's basically shit. Guest Kristian
What's the news? It has been this way for several years now :/ Luckily there are some spirits making the melodic stuff aswell and because of the so high existence of the sound of which you describe perhaps thoose new melodic artists will, hopefully be even more appreciated? Guest Trolsk
...and the track that started it all was probably "Clarity from the Deep Fog" by Prometheus Process, inciddently from the very first and classic Dementertainment compilation on Twisted. Synth farts for several minutes and then a melody towards the end. Excellent track, but boring when it becomes the norm, like most things. Guest moongoose
wich artists are on this comp you guys are talking about?
Lemmiwinks
hehehe thanks for explaining that perro andaluz!! Funny twist of fate: UNusual suspects contains fresh tracks with new ideas and Usual suspects contains the usual GMS formula, most of the time by GMS + friends... hehehe didn't think of it that way, I guess we were warned fair and square moongoose: artists are: GMS, Astrix, The Antidote, Talamasca, Oforia and Sub6 SMI²LE
Lemmiwinks
oh and I know the "formula" has been going on for a while now, but now it's really sickening to see EVERY damn new release contain it!! SMI²LE
Guest Towelie
"UNusual suspects contains fresh tracks with new ideas" eh.. most of the tracks are boring and has samples and sounds taken from simon postfords older tracks .. theres few nice ones thou

Guest TjT
look at the track times for the Prometheus album. 8.13 7.41 8.09 8.18 7.56 7.45 7.49 7.47 3.25 i like the album but one look at these track times and i started to wonder if the guy uses the same template for all his tracks, is it all just one big cut and paste job? Sure theres good music still but there is a real need for some fresh ideas in this scene. Far too much recycling going on. The Usual suspects 2 is on Solstice Records btw, not the twisted series. And whatever happened to the 2nd one on Twisted, is it ever getting released?

Guest RTP
"Sure theres good music still but there is a real need for some fresh ideas in this scene. Far too much recycling going on." Absolutely fully and totally agreed! Psytrance has now the same problem the normal trance and techno-scene had (and still has): too much similarity, it'all the same. This was the reason for me to change to psychedelic - there were more styles, more ideas, more freedom to create trippy sounds. Sadly the number of artists who are really using this freedom and create awesome sounds and musical artworks has become a rather small one. Meanwhile it has all got that syndrome: first not bad, but soon getting boring after listening more often...
