Guest Warrior Poet
I'm an American psy-trance fan(atic). I cut my teeth on it while living in Japan but since I returned to the USA I've been so LONELY and bored!!! NOBODY's interested in it and I can't find anything at the music shops except those cheap compilations. Even at "raves" there's mostly hip-hop (if you wanna call that a "rave") and house, etc. but no psy-trance. Wonder why we're so far behind the curve....? PS Especially here in Ken-tucky! I'm thinbking about inventing a new genre: country/psy-trance crossover!
Hels
Tough question...why don't American's like "classical music", either? Why do they like American Idol?
Guest adam
yeah ! We're pretty rare who likes Psytrance ! However, there is some areas where it's more "developed" than others. Here in Vancouver, the scene is very small, but very lovely ! There's also a small scene on the west coast: San Francisco, Los Angeles. But the biggest scene in America is on the east coast: New Work, Quebec, Montreal .. Over there it's nice, but nothing compared to Israel, India, UK or Japan .. And let me say: F*** American Idol !! lol !
Hels
I love my LA scene...very nice...just big enough and enough heart to go around...although, funny vibes sometimes

Lemmiwinks
well I don't think much of any nation likes psytrance... In Belgium there must be something like 100 - 200 regular party goes... out of more than 10 million inhabitants... you do the math... It's just that the scene is usually concentrated around one city or area. So if you're lucky enough to live in that particular area then you'll get the feeling that there's a nice little scene going on but if you don't, then you'll wonder if you're the only one on the planet who listens to this stuff... The lucky part in a small country like Belgium is that to go from the "non-psy" area to the "psy" area you only have to drive for half an hour Guess it's a lot more difficult in the US or Canada because of the great distances... Guest Pzen
American Idol is a copy of a British program called Pop Idol. One of the best gifts from the UK since the Spice Girls. There was a small scene in Wash. DC. I have been out of it for some time. It may not exist anymore. If you want a scene near you I suggest you start it. The music speaks for it self. Just remain passionate about throwing parties and people will show up.
Guest nicolasnickleby
Come to NYC, here we have big parties indoors all year long. Over the summer starting around now we have outdoor parties (squat mostly) in the woods of NYC, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. You live in rural area by any standard so anything you were into would be hard to some by.
Guest rx7style
Try Western Canada as well... no scene whatsoever out here. A&B Sound actually has some really out of place psy/goa classics, but other than that, I haven't seen anything in any stores here either. No parties at all for psy/goa. I would like to go to one overseas once in my life to see what the party aspect is surrounding this music because I've never experienced it. I first heard goa from an internet sample in 1994 and have been hooked ever since. It's a lonely genre to love out here... =)

You're invited to come to Mexico and we'll go to a party:)
Guest Jarac
Americans do not appreciate psy/trance because they are too concerned with mainstream and their mainstream idols!!! I am an American, and I have fortunately lived overseas. Belgrade Serbia has a good techno scence and especially psy/trance ! Try raving in an old army fortress until 12pm then watching yourself on tv the next day ? Love it Cao And enough about American Idole
seraph
How I understood Americans don't like anything that doesn't concern themselves. From what I've seen they are the most selfish country in the world considering art and quality things. They are allergic on quality. I don't say that all americans are like that but the global american feel is mostly based on their pop, mainstream, hip-hop, house and country music. They somehow can't relax with anything else that is not coming from their country. I think that NYC is the only different than whole America. There, they have open minds for every single thing...Hehe... Guest joe
I think more americans are getting into psy.. with the american rave scene pretty much gone and in tatters, people who were in it for the music originally are starting to look for something new. There are alot more americans at goa parties in ny now then there were 5 years ago for instance (it used to be probly 3/4s israeli/euro). I feel like it should have caught on more too, whenever theres that time when someone plays psy at a 'normal' rave event, theres a good chunk of people who are like "wow what is this stuff?" but i guess they often dont persue it much further... Guest .:::E.P
This discusssion have been taking place since 1994. I hear over and over again that soon USA will become a mecca for trance ect... Face the facts... Trance in USA will never evolve much further than the current state... And why should it? I think it's ok that trance do not become BIG in USA... Actually it's quite refreshing that there's something small in a country that always take pride in BIG things :-)
Guest acc3z
Three reasons: 1 No cult of personalities in psytrance 2 No stage performance (shows) 3 Its instrumental that means you have freedom to understand music without limitations and how u feel its very subjective Pozdrav za nase! Guest DT
I was one of the few americans who was blessed with the pleasure of being expose to electronic music by a european. This is how I started, and where I am now experimenting: Chillout and Ambient >> House >> Trip Hop >> World >> Goa trance >> Psytrance(most listening activity done here) >> Progressive Trance >> Lounge >> Breakbeat >> DNB. I think electronic music is one of best things I have ever discovered in my life. The scene here in miami is itty itty bitty. There's something, but nothing huge. Some DJs throw events in a club and organize some events, but none of those guys are american. They're all Europeans. I've been to one of their club events, and it was good stuff. I didn't have too much time to goto the other ones because of school. I am going to washington D.C. next friday to see Infected Mushroom with someone though. Bottomline: If you wanna see big psytrance names live, then my advice is for you to travel to other cities across north america. It's expensive, but you get to see all the big groups. This will be my first traveling out of town trance party, so I hope all goes well .
Guest Zyggy
Nahhh...we don't like psy 'cause it's too fast, too noisy, and you can't swing your hips to it in a slow grinding fashion. You see, we americans clap on the backbeat, you europeans clap on the 1, that's the difference. Also note that hip-hop (much of from american artists) is probably the most popular genre in the world. Whereever you go, there it is. So you better load your glock and light a lucy 'cause mo's back in the crib! Over the last few years, i've noticed small psy-trance enclaves popping up around the US, it's becoming more vibrant. I think San Francisco has the most vibrant scene. Was at a street fair, they had break-beat system and a psy-trance system (big and pumping), there were more people dancing at the psy-system than the breaks, like a couple hundred. This was a free public party. New York City has a noticable scene except that it's a bit fragmented, and the old-timers tend to squabble and gossip. I came into psy-trance thru NYC. Our (east coast) outdoor undergrounds typically don't have more than 100 people. Besides it's a big, spread-out country, takes days to drive from one region to another. Guest ear
"How I understood Americans don't like anything that doesn't concern themselves. From what I've seen they are the most selfish country in the world considering art and quality things." Wow that's really open minded way of thinking. Where is rolling eyes emoticon when you need it. "They are allergic on quality." You outdid yourself here. You obviously have something against America that has nothing to do with music, yet you bring it here and mix it with music discussion. Boy you really understand PLUR so well. " I don't say that all americans are like that but the global american feel is mostly based on their pop, mainstream, hip-hop, house and country music." ...and acording to you hip-hop, house and country music is for "selfish" and "allergic on quality" people??? If you're 7 year old kid I understand, you're still developing and will realise some things later in life. If you're not....then your way of thinking is at level of a 7 year old kid, so GROW UP! "They somehow can't relax with anything else that is not coming from their country." Wow someone write this down. It's gotta be in the top 10 stupidist comments found on the net. I'm not an American but it's mind boggling how ignorant your ass is. " I think that NYC is the only different than whole America. There, they have open minds for every single thing...Hehe..." .....and that comes from proffesor Seraph who is the world's leading expert in American art and music.. Guest Cryion
"They somehow can't relax with anything else that is not coming from their country." i think he got an interesting point there... there is definitely something true in there. even though not everything ... Guest ear
Do you care to elaborate what is "something true in there" ? ...and more importantly what does it have to do with music ?
Guest Subatomic
Lack of own (merit in) culture keeps the majority of Americans from understanding and caring about other cultures (and that ignorance is specially visible in discussions about 'cultural' Europe)
