Hello!

This is a question regarding the different versions of the excellent track 'Let's Turn On' by Doof.

I own both the Yellow Compilation and Doof's album 'Let's Turn On'. The 'Let's Turn On' track on each CD is different.

I was wondering is the 'Let's Turn On' that appears on Doof's album the same version as Let´s Turn On (Tuned In Mix) that appears on the TIP 003 12"?

I hae not got the 12" so I cannot be sure!

Thankyou very much guys!

in the version you're questioning, are there samples in it? ie "Let's turn on"?

Tuned in mix has no samples. I dont have the album, so..

I don't know about Let's Turn On but there're also tracks with the same name by the same artist but completely different!

ex. Dark Soho's Depth Of Emotion in Sun Spot album and in Distance To Goa 8. Different tracks! No remix or remake.

The same with Solaris' Out There in Astral Trance Trip 2 and A Voyage Into Trance Vol.4.

I'm curious why this is happening...

Thanks a lot guys!

Yes, both the Yellow Compilation and album version has samples in it.

Both have the familar "Let's turn on" voice (Leary), and the strange garbled voices in the breakdown part.

They have pretty much the exact same composition, arragement, notes and melodies, exept the sounds are different - actual synth sounds etc. Also the album version is a little shorter.

So it looks like the 'Let´s Turn On (Tuned In Mix)' only ever appeared on the 12" and never on a CD. Wow! Very rare!

Thanks again,

Slavkovski

I've always wondered about the tuned in mix... but, more often than not, old school unavailable on CD was unavailable because it wasn't as good. But there are some surprises. Alas it isn't always worth paying a lot of money to find out, and old TIP recs can be pricey...

Old TIP also had some other subtly different tracks with the same name... Uforica for example comes in two different flavours (though I think one is technically a Voodoo People remix, it isn't really prominently noted)...

Tuned in mix is really good. Very psychedelic and hypnotic. Far more interesting than original version. It's good and bad it only appears on the b-side. Good cos I got it, and it's a rarety, bad cos very few get the pleasure to hear it

Old rare releases is an excellent topic!

Indeed The Uforica on the The Infinity Project - Feeling Weird album is technically a Voodoo People remix. On my database I write it as [Paul Jackson Remix]. I don't think it's as good as the original which was an amazing 5/5 Goa classic. For the remix I give 3.5/5.

I guess some minimalist people may say both are crap as they are 'old school' and not in fasion. Great music is timeless.

Maybe I will start a new thread about rare early releases...
