memo604 - anyone know if this is legit?

Looks pretty shady to me, but on the other hand those artists - or at least those releases - are absent from Bandcamp (like Koxbox's "U-Turn" is not in Twisted Rec. profile) so perhaps they somehow got together to release stuff like this way? There's this weird "consistency" to their catalogue and if it wasn't legit it could well include lots more of much more diverse music, right? For now I've refrained from getting anything there, but I'll be observing this.

Any thoughts?

Me either.. I was afraid of fake lossless music, converted from MP3..

Pay attention to Frank's comments here: https://www.facebook.com/KoxboxMusic/posts/10158414362728077?__tn__=-R

Nice that's a great one. When looking at it now on spotify, it says: Copyright 2020 Classic Goa Trax. So case closed. ;)

Oh I did not know that. Interesting since it's not on their bandcamp..

Anyway that album is fantastic. I wrote a review on it at some point. :p

The sound quality is fantastic. They really put some work into those old tracks. Great label!

Chi-A.D releases up now. Seems weird that Jayce would go to all that trouble of the webpage and then just hand all the files over to Trancentral. Are we certain it's legit?

Great detective work so far btw. I messaged Jayce Young, will let you know if i get a response

yeah does seem a bit weird because hannah has been working hard getting web store up but she has it for sale on her site, so maybe memo have some rights??

Yea the effort Jayce and Hannah put into the store is why it seems a little off to me. I guess a reply from Jayce would end this once and for all.

I checked the Trancentral Youtube channel and sure enough they have a bunch of recent uploads to Chi-A.D albums and a link to the Memo604 Bandcamp.

you dont find they usually end up sounding better?

I was just expecting files ripped from DAT / masters, instead of vinyl rips.

But considering that in this case we are talking about music composed almost 30 years ago, the rarity of the release and quality of the rip (it is very good, as I wrote above),

I am REALLY HAPPY with this digital reissue.. :excl::excl:

And here I am, trying to find vinyl rips :p

No, they never do when compared to properly mastered digital files sourced from tape or whatever.

I see. But If you had a really good turntable, pickup and needle - using a high grade studio dac like the lyra or something, you could probably capture a vinyl record (without noise or crackle), and i think that would sound way nicer than someone rippin flacs from a CD! :)

obviously thats the optimal scenario, but even with consumer grade stuff i think vinyl just sounds a bit better, it doesnt have any aliasing or sound sharp, and it has to me a more realistic sound. (i think phase and stereo image has alot to do with this. which can sound slightly artificial in a pure digital environment)

in fact i have a few vinyl rips of the astral catalogue and they sound better to me than the CDs.

but you mentioned properly mastered digital files from tapes - Its probably quite rare to have a digital file sourced from tape? Ofc unless you mean how Cds were sourced from the master tapes in the last 40 or so years.. But if thats what you mean then thats not even better, its actually another step.

Sourcing a Vinyl rip (thats also sourced from the master tape) and then making a "proper" digital master as you say - would sound better using the vinyl rip than using a CD rip.
