Guest Jon Cocco
Okay... just read this if you want to know about one of the coolest, most badass albums of 2004, and I shit you not, this album is a rare gem! I just got the Four Carry Nuts album and I want to tell you all about what I really think of it! You may know my posts for me being critical as shit, so if I say somethings good or great, you may just shit a brick, but then again, not everyone likes every album but... Four Carry Nuts is arguably the greatest psytrance album of 2004 thus far. The samples don't do this justice. Just bear with me here. I recently posted a thread on Scatterbrain, just how insane and creative that psytrance album is. I can tell when thousands of hours of mixing and creating goes into an album, it just shows. You all know when an album is great, you just fucking know it! Four Carry Nuts is not as random or crazy/nuts as Scatterbrain. I refuse to compare the two any further because they are both great albums and I hold each one very high on my list. They are two very different styles and albums. Four Carry Nuts has few samples but it is very melodic and brings in a heavy guitar which is fucking like something crazy out of Sun Projects best tracks. (at times) Now look, I'm someone who loves the best of the best. I love Hallucinogen, Infected Mushroom, Cydonia, Pleiadians, Transwave, Miranda, and some earlier Astral Projection work. This album is great if you love LAYERS and LAYERS of crazy riffs, melody, lots of mixing, variety of sound and changes within the same song, imagination, energy, (this will give you lots of adrenaline, it must be amazing on the dance floor) and the whole production in general. I'm NOT saying that this is the best album of all time, and I don't think its made to be infected in any way, but this album is VERY AMBITIOUS and every track is very catchy, hard, full-on, and fucking deeep with layers of sounds! Every track is good, or great, or excellent, or just flat-out awesome! I put every song on levels because I compare and I like this album alot because tons of work went into making each and every track super badass are very cool! Thousands of hours have gone into making this album. It all shows. These creators have gone ALL OUT and I recommend anyone sample this thing right now on seiko tunes (whatever that sites called you people mention) or psyshop.com and just fucking buy this if you want an awesome album in your collection. I don't wanna sound like I know what you all like, but I found the samples interesting and I'm greatful to know that the whole album is better, thats why I had to write this. I am not hyping the album. I could really give a shit how you all hear this, although I do feel that things like this deserve to be bought if you dig it because the artists must have worked their ass off to make it awesome! I am just totally impressed with the fact that it takes MUCH to impress me and only two other albums have impressed me this year. 1.) Scatterbrain. 2.) Space Monkey.... Four Carry Nuts is better than Electronic Universe's 2004 album, which is VERY GOOD too with great tracks, but this new heavy, melodic, full-on style by Four Carry Nuts with LOTS of LAYERS is probably the most unexpected and ambitious release in 2004 to date. Space Monkey is also a great dark psytrance album that impressed me and I strongly suggest you check out all three of them if you want some of the coolest psytrance albums of the year thus far! But I shit you not when I say this: These people have gone all out and its a bit overwhelming in some tracks. I bet they figured they'd go all out because if this baby doesn't sell well, (because this music isn't all that popular in general) I wouldn't be surprised if they never made another. But every track after track 2 is nuts, very powerful with LOTS of rhythm!!!, I love rhythm and melodies and layers!!! I've been mixing for over 5 years and I can tell that each track has at least 15-30+ layers of (sounds, beats, bass lines, melodies, etc...) at almost any given time. It is just very cool stuff and I hope if you own or order/buy this thing you totally dig it too and post what you think! I had to write this to show my appreciation because I feel many people are missing it because its a debut album and some of the greatest ones don't go unless they're spread by word-of-mouth. I'd be totally interested to hear what any of you thought. And yes, I realize no matter how great I say it is, this is not for everyone, but shit... its quite impressive for what it is. I put the samples at psyshop below just for the convience... The album is over 78:00 minutes long and theres a bonus track too but the bonus track is nothing special like the other songs 9/10 - Great! later.. http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/aur/aur1cd004.html http://www.fourcarrynuts.com/

Guest ChoBo
yes i heard this album, it broke my nuts! But I read that some found it a huge disappointment. I love the acid sounds Stomping album for sure!
Guest Kristian
Yes it's good, but not THAT great! I'm sure if it had been released before 1999 no one had payed much attention to it. Back then almost everything was groundbreaking and inspirational.
Lemmiwinks
totally agree with Kristian on this!! I've seen that most people are so disspointed by the hoards and hoards of typical full-on releases on one hand, and typical progressive releases on the other that whenever they get their hands on an album that has a totally different style, they're all enthusiastic about it and say it's the best album ever. But keep in mind: winning is one thing and winning by default is something else... That said, yes, Mechanical Age is indeed one of the better albums of 04... Guest psygone1000
Nice review Cocco. I really agree with you that this is a great cd. I think some people were disappointed because it took so long to release. It turned out to be a big surprise but not the second coming like some people were hoping for. I don't consider every track great but more than half of the tracks had me floored, so yeah, its pretty great! The first time I heard this, some tracks were like Holy shit!, and tracks 3,4,5,6, 7, 8 are all brilliant! I agree with Kristian that this isn't ground breaking, but the style is really good. Yes, Four Carry Nuts and the new Electronic Universe album are my two favs so far this year. I haven't heard Space Monkey yet though. You seem to like the really crazy albums so maybe I'll buy that one too. layers?, lol...
Guest chris
beside that I also love this album a lot I would like to mention, that this music is not that groundbreaking as it seems to be. four carry nuts just took their industrial roots and mixed them with hard banging beats and voilà top notch full-on sound. industrial music in the early 90`s would have sounded the same way if today's production hard- and software would have been available that time. chris
Guest crystal
ground breaking or not its still fuckin awesome!
Guest Subatomic Vision
The first track of that album promises a lot, but the rest of the album can't keep up with it productionwise and musically...
Guest Jon Cocco
I listened to this album 3 times very carefully and I've analyzed each track, comparing them to each other and every thing in psytrance I've ever heard in the full-on style. Not every track on this album is great, thats for sure, but this is truly one of the best albums of the year because of some tracks which are fucking great and/or awesome and I strongly believe that there are no bad tracks here. I don't change my words above about how much work must have gone into making this album. It does show if you know a thing or two about mixing. See my short, individual track review and analysis below: 1.) Hexagon - Damn! Track 1 is truly GREAT! What an awesome, energetic, melodic stomping track! This may be brilliant on the dance floor! Way to start off the album off! 2.) Mechanical Age - Track 2 is very good. It is. Very catchy and melodic but not as wild and forceful as the first track. 3.) Falling Chains - Track 3 becomes great as it builds, or its very good with greatness. Either way it rocks! 4.) Theory Of Gravitation - Track 4 is pretty good. Not as solid as it could have been but it is pretty dark and the melody fucking ROCKS!!! 5.) The System - Track 5 is decent, not good or bad. I feel this may be the least likeable track on the album for most listeners, due to the voices or singing. I feel the voices take away from the badass, heavy, dark industrial melody and rhythm. Their are some nice sounds and bell like hits, it reminds me of dark psytrance mixed with Nine Inch Nails at times. The guitar makes this feel more like heavy metal or industrial and not psytrance at many times. This track has parts that are are good, but one downside is that its short compared to the others, only about 6:00 long but I didn't see it going anywhere great so its good they ended it when they did. Its still cool stuff. 6.) Red Shift - Track 6 is extremely good or great! The melodies/rhythm is super cool, catchy, nightime stuff! This continuously changes with lots of cool sounds making RHYTHM with their musical layers. Did I mention CATCHY?!! This fronts track 7 so nicely... 7.) Pendulum - Wow! Track 7 is fucking great and arguably the best track on the album next to or close to the first track. With multiple, epic melodies, that are both beautiful and powerful, stuff you may only imagine or hear in a great sci-fi fantasy/action movie, or something awesome they could have played in the first classic Matrix movie! 8.) Violet Ray - Way to end the last 4 tracks. This is DARK!!! Great / good, well done, not a masterpiece but totally wicked, melodic, hard kickass stuff, nice dark tunes too! 9.) Convergence - Nice way to end the album, less chaotic, but still catchy and melodic, with heavy, cool guitar riffs, rippling effects, beats, etc... this is a very good if not great track which does not end the album softly! ...... Bonus Track 10.) ... well this isn't really anything other than a bunch of cool little sounds and echo's. I don't see the point here, but whatever... they just wanted to fill up the 80 minute CD I guess. I feel they could have squeezed in a wicked bonus track that rocks but whatever... the first 9 tracks are totally rock without it. My conclusion - If you like lots of melodies, occasional guitars, heavy beats and lots of change and variety of sound and places that the song goes while in the same song, sound-wise, you should really like this. This album does rock and it has many layers of sound, like at times it is just so melodic and this seems to be great music to DANCE TOO, but listening to it is also super cool. The best main albums 2004 to date - I strongly feel thus far (and I am being critical, you are entitled to agree or disagree) are... 1.) Four Carry Nuts - Mechanical Age 2.) Electronic Universe - Cosmic Experiences... 3.) Space Monkey 4.) Lemurians: Secret Message 5.) follow-up: "Analog Pussy - Trance and Roll" ...and for the several I may have missed, you know who they are. ...and please check those albums out, you owe it to yourself to hear the coolest stuff of the year if you appreciate psytrance!
