Guest DT
HI guys, I'm having a serious debate with some dumb club trancers. They claim their music is not commerical. I claim it's some of the most commericalized shit I've ever came in contact with. The music they like is by Paul Van Dyke, Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Junkie XL, Sasha, Dj Prince, etc. Do you guys think this form of trance music as being commerical music or not? I say yes. What do you say.

Guest doppleganger
Yes, it is commercial trance music. If you can find those artists on amazon.com, it is, in fact, commercial.

khogg
He's not the real moderator (incase that wasn't obvious). I'll tell you what else is obvious: the kind of music you describe is indeed about as commercial as electronic music gets, which is not as much as maybe Britney Spears, but still pretty dam commercial. Put it this way, I wouldn't be surprised to find a Paul Oakenfold cd at a Walmart.
Guest Kurki
Well now, you see it's really imprtant and interesing question and all, and I would love to discuss it, but I rather go and take a dump.
Guest RTP
Do you guys think this form of trance music as being commerical music or not? No, this is not commercial music. This is not even music. This is ... err, let's put it the polite way: even the handkerchieves I wank into get more attention from me than that - and even after I have used them! Guest Dez
I fail to see how 'commercial' trance makes it any better or worse then psy/another else 'underground'. Just because your listening to 'underground' stuff doesn't make it any better or worse
Guest spifer jo
"The music they like is by Paul Van Dyke, Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Junkie XL, Sasha, Dj Prince, etc. Do you guys think this form of trance music as being commerical music or not?" Trully I believe it is commercial music. It´s not a question of beeing better or worse. It's commercial. But just to let u know: I CAN'T STAND THAT KIND OF TRANCE. Let's kill all those motherfuckers who listen to that shit.... eheheheh.
shpongled
Top Commercial list: 01. Britney Spears, Madonna.. etc... 02. 03. 04. . . . . 34. . . . . 66. . . . . . . . 124. . . . . . . . . . . . 268. . . . . . . . . 562. . . . . . . . 879. . . . . . . . . . 1275. Trance, Psytrance, House, Drum&Bass, IDM.. etc.. etc.. What I mean is that Paul Van Dyke is not more commersial than for example Hallucinogen if you compare them to Britney and Co. Maybe Sasha and pals are making cheesy music but at least they seem to know what they are doing. 99% of psytrance released these days is totally forgettable crap. IMO. Guest DT
Towelie: No, I discovered goa trance first on my own looking for some good music to listen to one day. Psytrance soon followed. I don't do it to be special. It just turns out that I listen to music that most people don't even know exists.
Guest koolaid
In order of commercialism (in my opinion), starting from most commercial. Paul Oakenfold - plays less vocal tracks (as far as I know) than Paul Van Dyke, but is more likely to play dance tracks which will appear on the radio as radio edits in 2-4months time. Tiesto - most tunes he plays are easier to track down as the majority of dance music stores will stock them (so in this sense the music he plays is quite commercial). Tiesto has been known to be the reason why quite a few tracks get released as singles. I don't think this makes *him* commerical, though he is definately awesome at making underground hits which have radio/commercial appeal. eg. the awesome Delerium - Silence (DJ Tiesto mix) Paul Van Dyke - may play one or two tracks which appear on the radio as radio edits (about 6months down the line?). The rest of the tracks are underground and probabbly quite difficult to track unless you are a member of tranceaddict website, or go vinyl shopping. A lot of music he plays will take ages to be released as he gets a lot of promo's before anyone else. His music may be seen as the most *commercially acceptable*, as he plays quite a few vocal trance tracks (yuck!). Junkie XL - underground; won't play any tunes which appear on the radio. though has been known to remix some tracks to reach commercial acceptability (See his "Radio Junkie XL" album). Sasha - underground; won't play any tunes which appear on the radio. The style he plays is progressive, and usually contains sounds which are pleasing to hear. therefore his music could be seen as having more commercial potential than a DJ that plays twisted psy trance / drum n bass. Dj Prince - so underground that I have no idea who he is ;-)
Guest Towelie
i see DT.. but how about "psy" parties like the gathering where they build a fucking big stage where astrix etc play live with winamp .. i would call that quite commercial
Guest DT
Towelie: Yeah, your talking about something that happens in japan. I'm talking about the U.S.. Most people don't know what psytrance is here. To most people here, Trance is still techno. All electronic music, as a matter a fact, is techno to them. If you ask the average person in america what psytrance is, they'll probably respond with: "I don't know what sidetrance is. Is it a side genre of trance?" "I don't know what that is." I was in an R&B club last weekend, and they played some mainstream trance. People were doing the crazy trance dancing to it too. I asked damn near all of them if they heard of psy or goa trance, and everyone said no. My point is this: How can something be considered commerical if most people don't even know if it exists. How can something be considered cheese if no one has heard it??? I don't know what you guys consider as commerical, but some psytrance tracks that you think are ain't it. My advice to you is to really find out on what type of trance music is played in U.S. clubs and listen to it. When you see the type of cheese that I have to endure every saturday night, you'll rethink on what you said about astrix. DT
Lemmiwinks
Any fag that would rather walk around a club asking people if they've heard of psytrance instead of picking up bitches is a fucking pussy. Are you a fucking pussy DT? This is your last warning pussy. You will be banned from my forums if you keep on acting like a bitch.

Guest DT
LemmiDICK: Wow, so I take it you were around me on those nights?? You must be that invisible guy always hanging around whom I don't give a fuck about. In reference to: "Any fag that would rather walk around a club asking people if they've heard of psytrance instead of picking up bitches is a fucking pussy. Are you a fucking pussy DT? This is your last warning pussy. You will be banned from my forums if you keep on acting like a bitch." I was dancing with a very fine asian girl almost the entire time I was at the club that night. Asking people if they were into psytrance lasted no more than five mintues tops. They were like six people dancing to the trance being played there. And any fool who lies about a forum belonging to him, has way too much time on their hands and should be sticking carrots up his ass. Oh wait a mintue, That is you on that pic from that thread! Lemmidick = QUEER Towelie: It's cool dude.
Lemmiwinks
While you were dancing with your asian boyfriend, you asked 6 people if they'd heard of psytrance... 6 people does not = 293,863,341 people you silly bitch. Any moron can figure that out. My advice to you, try not to fuck yourself stupid with those glow sticks next time. I'll let you off the hook for now because your idiocy amuses me. B*TCH
Guest osx
So 6 is not 293 million?. Lets look: if 6 from 6 asked, says no. Then 0 (you asked) means that cant extrapolate to 293 mill? His statistic inference is weak, yours is null. Good to hear there are something somewhere in the cloud of boring %&()). you usually post. ...under several nicks, some from others. ////////////Toweli, I enjoyed your post about underground/commercial attitude(see below), so much, I am going to use it sometime in the future, thanks. "I don't do it to be special. It just turns out that I listen to music that most people don't even know exists." Though, I might also like a bit, to feel special... Egotistical me.
