Guest Trevor C Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 I strongly agree with DT about what he said about the attitude towards Psytrance in the US. Most people have never heard of it. I have introduced a few people to it and they like it. Many fans of "American electronic"/mainstream/whatever stuff people seem to hear it and think that it's pretty groovy. However, many people get freaked out by psytrance... it can be a tad brooding and dark. My girlfriend says that it "tries to be too profound" which is true with some songs. I find that my emotions are stimulated quite a bit more with psytrance compared to the "trance" that I hear in the US -but some people prefer "minimum impact electronica". I am also a huge fan of analogue synths, that has always been one of my biggest draws to Goa and the like -I go to parties and hear this music -some of which is OK... I mean, the production value is decent with some of the mainstream stuff, but it usually leaves me wanting more. I get in the car and throw in a Hallucinogen album and damn... I just love the sound of those things -especially when some effort is put in to sculpting the sound into something unique and interesting. I don't really like the generic synths found in mainstream trance (epic, progressive, etc...) Anyway. I live in Minneapolis, MN, and I have met... I don't even know if I have met one person who is as big of a psytrance fan as I am. There are seldom any psytrance parties in the midwest. Occasionally on the west or east coast some big big names will play, and some areas seem to have a tiny scene, but nothing compared to the rest of the world. I never find and good psy in record stores, either. The only opportunity I have to experience this music in a party setting on a big system is when I go to Burning Man. So yeah, don't move to the midwest US if you are a trance fan. We are a huge center for Drum'n'Bass parties, though. Yay -Trevor Quote
