Guest psybrat
i made a track and it is in .wav format 16bit stereo .. it sounds ok when the bass and treble levels are normal .. i noticed that 1. when i turn up the bass to the max on my SBAWE 64 from the volume control, i hear killer dancefloor like kik and bass on my headphones .. is that tuning up the bass justified .. are all tracks mastered that way ?? or am i not getting it right?? someone please tell me .. 2. my friend recommended i use t-racks .. but i couldn't really get that killer kik and bass sound on my headphones .. i really liked the sound when the bass was turned up ... someone HELP ! are there any alternatives for me ? love and light, psybrat ... Guest Psylent Buddhi
Well, you should use monitors/speakers for the mastering. Headphones tend to give you a wrong impression of volume levels and such. And you should use T-Racks, it's a really great program. It's a pity it only contains a 5 band equalizer, but the sound quality is superb. Before starting your "mastering session", listen to well mastered and balanced albums like Doof's "It's About Time" and Koxbox's "Dragon Tales" to sort of give you an impression of what your track lacks, which frequencies you should boost and which to reduce etc........... If you use T-Racks, remember to turn on the multiband-limiter to get a really loud final mix... I love loud...

Guest Amanita Muscaria
I think the headphones are usually giving the best sounds even though you had good quality speakers. Anyway, I always do mastering using both headphones and speakers - first try achieving a good sound with headphones and then switch to speakers. Flaws of the track are easier to hear through headphones but the overall sound should be heard through speakers.. Another confusing post.. I'm out. Guest Elysium Project
Well in order to make the best result you have to have a good set of studio monitores.... Headphones give you a wrong picture of the sound....... If you want to make it on headphones you need to buy very expensive headphones ($. 1500 - 2000) and even then the result will be better on a pair of medium expensive monitors. Guest loomchild
Hi The mastering process is quite a hard task. It requires to have something like an "absolute ear". What u should do before mastering anything is to switch off any of your soundcard/software EQs, Loudness maximisers etc.. In a word, try to get the "purest" sound out of your Soundcard. If You use headphones, try to buy ones with some neutral filters. Then when you use ur mastering program, u can play with the Eqs to get the "real"sound. Hope this could help Loomchild
Guest Slidingtrancer
It's all about using the ear in the end...

Guest psybrat
i observed that i have a bias for certain sounds .. i like my low freq sounds to be at max level ... not a good thing .. looks like i will have to look around for a nice person to do that for me .. love and light, psybrat. Guest Rikard
Headphones can just as good as monitors when mastering. What really matters is that u know ure phones or monitors. If u are used to listen to alot of music in that system u are using (may it be phones or monitors), then you know what is the right sound. I use a medium class AKG phones, and sometimes i switch to using the monitors for checking it out. Its very important to listen to the material in diffrent sound systems before you decide that it is finished, a good song sounds good both in the mega speakers in the club and in your grandma's old radio.
