Guest Wizz
Sorry if it's a dumb question, but i really need your help about this guys! i have no idea how to handle a permission and i'm about to make a phone call to the legal department of an important movie producer so my nuts are getting smaller by minute. It's a known matter i'm sure i'm just new here and so making psy.... Any advice please? Do they usually ask for a fee to independent artists? Thanx a lot in advance ! Guest Elysium Project
I have used many things from movies..... such words and sound effect.... and not they rarely ask for copyright fees.... They have copyright on the movie and sound effects and the music in the movie but rarely on the words spoken........It is just too expensive for them to copyright every sentence in a movie...... so just go for it....... I have never been afraid of it.......
Guest Wizz
Thanx a lot for replying and the advice! ! However i've been told by the guys at the mp3.com message board that mp3.com wont upload a song which contains samples even from tv shows ! Strange thing , there's no clue of this issue on any marketing book or web site (legaly speaking) . Thanx again! Wizz
Guest Elysium Project
Well I would't take mp3.com's rule about that too serious...... Afterall if they had to take their own rules serious they had to kick out 75 % off al the music on their site.... If you want to be 100% secure... I guess you will have to ask the film production company... the chance is that they will ask for too much money (if they do indeed have the copyrights)..... My advice is.... take the samples you need and edit the samples with effects ect....... mp3.com won't even know the difference...
Guest Rikard
Ive been rejected to put up song of mine on mp3.com because of some moviesamples. The sample was used during a break in the song, the guy from mp3.com even knowed what movie it was from ("predator"), and he told me to take it away otherwise they wouldnt host the song. I have other songs on mp3.com with samples that they allowed. I think if u use the sample at the same time as some other sound, so the sample is not in solo, then it will be OK and mp3.com cant do anything about it. Its just my theory though. Guest Wizz
Yeah , those reviewers at mp3.com knows everything, geez! I'll have to ask them directly , i think that if the sample is recognizable and we don't have the permission from the producer they wont approve it 4 going live (they are just watching their back) . I'd like to listen some of ur trax , would you be so kind to post the URL to ur mp3 site? Thanx a lot for replying Rikard ! Wizz
Guest Wizz
I think it'll be cool if you guys, share whatever experience you've had regarding this issue. It's a foggy matter , let's clear it up ! Wizz

Guest Wizz
Hi Ether :-) In my opinion, mp3.com, despite the huge amount of troubles , bugs , unfear handling of theirs artists ... so far is still the most reliable and renowned site for independent musicians . Not that i think that mp3 will get us a record deal , but it could help much more than a site owned by a single band , or all of the less known sites like Besonic, Ampcast, IUMA, Vitaminic, Javamusic...etc.... Not to mention the astonishing traffic those guys handle , they say it's a million per month , let's just take a half of it , still amazing and atractive :-) Anyway , and this is regarding the copyright issue, if they wouldn't approve a song containing "ilegal" samples it means they know something we don't ,and that's somehow a clue of what's wrong and right, things we'll have to deal with anyway in the future......why not right on? Kind Regards Wizz

Guest Zen
in a world long ago... when mp3.com still was fresh.... i've uploaded a track with a completely unknown Kung fu sample from an old hong kong movie... but the fags at mp3.com knew exactly what movie it was and told me to remove the sample =( Then my friend, uploaded a track with an obvious (!) sample from Alien 4... it went through ... now i've deleted my account at mp3.com. they suck real hard!
