Guest dam10n
My advice don't plan it. Don't plan it too much anyway. If you have big ideas & expactations about what will happen, it ain't gonna live up to it. Likewise any playlist is going to formulate things too much - the key part of DJing is being spontaneous whenever I have played with a pre-set list it's never really gone off. generally you're better off starting with some tecchy-prog stuff and try not to get to the real full on stuff till just before the mid-part of the night. Especially true if not all the people there are going to be mad psy fiends ! The tecchy stuff like son kite and atmos, not to everybody's taste, but it does sound very cool for all the people walking in to a club not knowing what they shoudl expect - it's kind of future disco rather than full trancefest - let them get into it a bit and then drop the killers. I always used Gamma Goblins by Hallucinogen to start off the trippy run from the proggier side - it seems to go down very well and the tune itself builds up nicely. After that if they're on your side it really doesn't matter what you do. Try though to pick something with a long intro and/or breakdown every 3-4 songs as this will give a bit of a breather. And save your best till last. shout if you want more help.
Guest AMP
You have to check where your party will be, it really depends on the people, or if you just think you shoul provide them a spiritual information, just check all the great reviews on this site and start finding the musics. Dont forget to play Wizzy Noise, Antix, Parasence, Infected Mushroom, GMS, Native Radio, Refeer Decree, some Skazi might go well....etc... Anoebis
Moonlight, don't try to play Infected, Hallucinogen, Astral, Darksoho too much on Belgian underground-parties, because many people will think you are a "best of" DJ who only play hits!! And 80% of the people HATE that, they want to be surprised with new, powerful music!!! And néver play with a playlist, if you do that your set will be no good simply because you don't feel what the public wants!! You should see what kinda music the people want and then you should play the right song... In the beggining that's not easy, but the more you DJ, the easier it becomes!! (it took me about 6 months, but now it's going véry well...;-))) See you all at PLUR 2!! Bom Shankar Anoebis Ps: op welk feestje gaat ge juist draaien?? Guest moonlight
thanks a lot ... all of you ... some great advice :-) well it's not really a 100% psy-trance party, some friends of mine begin with some psychedelic rock (jimi hendrix, the doors, pink floyd, zappa, ...) and after that I (and another friend of mine) will play some psy-trance ... wishing for the best :-) ps anoebis: het is in Aalst ... het is wel maar een klein feestje(privé ook eigenlijk) , het is meer een fantasy night (iedereen moet ook verkleed zijn - trol, elf, ...) nicy now :-) Peace love and Happiness, moonlight
Guest moonlight
well I've got 1 advantage about putting together my playlist ... so I can play infected, hallucinogen, dark soho, ... as much as i want acually cuz (almost) none of the people i'll be playing for have ever been to a psy trance party ... so i won't have to care about the 'best of' reputation :-p but i'll just see what happens ... if people get tired of the same old infected sounds maybe i'll switch to something totally different. Guest JC
My advice is if you haven't really played the role of dj before, make sure you have a playlist as a just incase. Sometimes you get distracted, or a cd is scratched and you have to flip to another track, its good to know the track your going too. But yes I once set up a huge playlist with special tricks I was going to do at certain spots in songs etc... well it worked, but, I was so stressed out during the whole process it all nearly blewup in my face. Most important is to know your cd's, that way you wont have to preview them in your headphones to make sure its the song you want etc... Just keep listening to the songs your thinking of playing prior to the party and you will be fine. Also these people your playing for wont even notice a bad mix. Just dont beat mix if you don't know how. and make sure the tracks have atmospheric endings without a constant beat so it will be easy to slide in a new track. have fun
