Guest nadisrec@worldnet.att.net
A question about sequencing: Can a synth be it's own master keyboard? I have one that makes a good "controller", but when it comes to it's own sounds...? Could I make it "slave" itself thru a circular setup (synth MIDI Out to sequencer MIDI In, and vice versa)? Alternatively, would a patch dump, direct from the synth to sequencer, do the job (the job being storage of synth sounds for later use)? Or (third option) should I just break down and buy a master keyboard (likely, but be sure to explain the faults in the other two)? Be as detailed as possible here... Thanks muchly! Guest psychopat
Hi Inukko. I'm not sure if I have well understood what you were asking but : yes you can use the synth keyboard to send MIDI events only on the MIDI out. This MIDI option is often called "Local Keyboard" or "Local MIDI" or something like that. You can set it in the MIDI setup of the synth. Thus the embedded sound generator is not connected anymore with the keyboard and will only play what is coming from the synth's MIDI in. Is this what you were looking for? Guest Inukko
Yeah, but there should be some way of playing the synth sounds directly from it's keyboard (besides sampling that is)
Guest psychopat
Sorry I still do not understand. Of course the basic feature of a synth, is to play its sounds via its keyboard ! Would you mind explain exactly what you are expecting from your synth? Do you mean that you can not achieve the synth to play something when you hit the keyboard? two possible reasons : - local keyboard is set to OFF (no events sent to the sound generator) - the MIDI Transmit (Tx) channel selected for your keyboard does not match any MIDI channel selected for your parts (if the synth is multitimbral) These two options are in the MIDI setup of the synth. Hope this helps or tell us more.
shpongled
Umm... how can you "sample" your synth if you can't hear the sounds? Have you tried to connect headphones directly to your synth? Can you now hear the sounds? ...if not then the problem is what Psychopat said... local keyboard is set to OFF.
Guest Inukko
Huh? No I can hear the synth sounds just fine... I wanted to know if I could *sequence* a synth without using another keyboard.
shpongled
Well it depends what synth you have... some synths have built in sequencer and some don't... but best way to sequence is with computer... software like Cubase and Logic Audio are most used Sequencers.
