Guest Slidingtrancer
Reaktor is wonderfull subtractive synthesis if you have the TIME to really get into it and you fully grasp its possibilities. As I have NO TIME at all...

Guest hogus
Its not as hard as you think it is... On any synth you have to pick what oscillator you want to use how you want to filter it, and if you want to apply effects to it... with Reaktor you just get to decide how you want to control it as well. It does take a bit of time to work it all out, but it's well worth the knowledge you gain. After you come to grips with Reaktor you'll figure out any other synth you see blindingly fast. Subtractive synthesis has a few very basic concepts it all just comes down to how you control and modulate the sound. It can aslo do FM synthesis and you can build some amazing sampler/granular, type synths from it. I was going to buy a whole bunch of synths at a point, but I just kinda got stuck on this software... there's so much you can do with it. Bear in mind I had a reasonably solid knowledge of synthesis before I started out, but I've also gained a hell of a lot of experience when it comes to applying that knowledge. A really good site to get knowledge on how to produce music from some of the more basic stuff to the more advanced stuff is: http://www.studiocovers.com/articles.htm also www.futuremusic.co.uk has some reasonable info... Pretty basic, even the stuff that they consider advanced. And a good community to post on for producers is: www.futureproducers.com .... All kinds of music though, but mostly dance.
