Strumpling
So, would anybody find this interesting (or I'll-steal-his-idea-"worthy?")? I would record percussion. lots of it. at least 50 different kicks from each "category" wood on wood wood on glass wood on metal metal on metal metal on glass glass on glass These sounds could be "rolled" together into a giant sound, which would stretch out and "zoom in" on different parts (metal on glass could play around for a while, then "zoom" back out to the whole thing again), it could speed up into a giant "zip" type of sound, or slow down to 1 beat every couple seconds even. of course, there would be hopefully not-so-generic "waves of sound" to back it up, and many other things involved, but it seem with enough detail, almost an entire album could be made with percussion sounds "in the spotlight" like that. So is that a cool enough idea for me to NOT be posting it here on a public forum, or does it suck ass? I guess it would all depend on the final product, which probably sounds a lot clearer in my head than anywhere else. Maybe you'll hear it someday... then we'll be able to tell if it sucks -=- Matt/Strumpling -=- feel free to take that idea if it doesn't suck, or is already 15 years old! Strumpling
I could probably creat some in-between sounds as well, so a transition from metal-metal to metal-glass would sound smoother there would of course be at least 2 different ones playing together, it would rarely just be metal-metal or wood-glass or whatever..... mix n match, ya know? But yeah, there are way too many ideas I'm comming up with to keep posting them. This is the only one I'll throw out here. -=- Matt/Strumpling -=- way too many ideas
Guest aonia
It would sound great with a little delay 2/2 that goes with the kick... I think your idea is very original, I never heard someone doing this... I knew that Juno Reactor has 2 africans for drums(i like that, real drums) which is kinda weird in electronic music but it sounds great...so why not create something unconventional? for glass/glass use beer bottles, you'll certainly be successful..;-)
Strumpling
Well I'll certainly use beer bottles....... as well as many many many other types of things. As I'd said, at LEAST 50 samples of each "category." to cover the whole "scale" of the sound -=- Matt/Strumpling -=- beer!
Guest aonia
lots o' beer ! lol Good luck in your experiments
Guest Andreas of Amygdala
Word Strumpling! Beer is good - and so is this posting! It's always great to share ideas and thoughts... Here's one of my very favourites: If you have a vocoder, put an unfiltered saw-wave through it as carrier-signal, and modulate it with the above mentioned percussion hits - preferably a catchy loop, with a lot of different frequencies in it... The sound coming out of the vocoder will be a percusive bass sound, packing the heat from the saw (as a bass maybe?), and yet with the distinctness of the perc... Great fun, and it sounds soooo cool - if you're willing to sacrifice a couple of hours, 'cuz it's a bit hard to get right the first few times... Gee, I love my vocoder - and my 707 to go through it - do feel free to add some reverb or delay, stir heavily, and tweak the knobs (at least the volume...) Strumpling
Oh Andreas of Amygdala, You're WAY over my head, my friend. I'm a beginner, decided to start creating music SERIOUSLY just a few weeks ago, so I'm still gathering hardware/software. I know close to NOTHING about vocoders; I've used them, but didn't know what I was doing. I'll be spending one week toying with each feature and plugin I have in each program, and then the following weeks will be messing with MULTIPLE features and plug-ings, AND programs for that matter..... THEN comes the creation.. First I gotta "get my feet wet", and I have this idea to keep me going for now Thanks for the tip, though. When I have more experience I will definitely be able to steal those ideas from you!! :-D -=- Matt/Strumpling -=- let's make music!
Guest Mike Indidginus
Don't worry Strumpling - at least you've got the gist of the psychoactive word game (which is more than I have!)... At first, just worry about making a good, clean recording of your sounds then worry about effecting it etc. Making a good recording is not necessarily as easy as it sounds (ha, ha - get it?)... Make sure you have a decent mike (Sennheiser do good, budget ones Sennheiser Site ) and a good pair of leg warmers...
Guest Cujo
matt. i'd like a copy of all those samples? so i could make my own way of the stretch? quality samples of wood on wood, and wood on glass etc. are rare. so id really like a copy, if it's possible? Strumpling
rofl they probably won't be all that high-quality. I'm going to have to produce them myself I'll definitely let you know how they turn out, though, Cujo. I'll let you rip off my noises ;-) -=- Matt/Strumpling -=- there's SO much stuff i keep comming up with now
