ouroboros
ok im no where near where i nedeed to be money wise to buy even a used one yet. but im saving to buy a synth. here is what im looking into: microwave xtk virus kb or indigo korg karma now ive also been thinking of maybe getting an oberhiem ob 12 instead as its about 900 bucks cheaper. im having a problem though because i cant really find a store that hase either microwave, virus, or the ob 12 so i can play with them. has anyone tried all or at least 2 of these machines who can give me a little help? i have one specific question also... does the ob 12 have percussion? is it any good? my only peice of hardware right now is a yamaha dx-200 which can make some pretty cool sounds..but isnt really complete enough. thnx for the help. Guest jakemyth
Man those r all serious synths to get started on........but that is the only way to go i reckon. It really depends on what your needs r and what kind of sounds u want. i have played all of those except the karma and they r all very good, however 2 are virtual analogs and one is a digital wavetable synth. The XTK uses wavetable and has a steep learning curve when compared to something like a virus, but the sound of an xtk is amazing quite possibly one of the best synths i have heard. Quite easy to get psy sounds out of it i know X Dream uses them a lot. Pure sound manipulation!! The ob-12 is very nice and considering how much they have come down in price they r worth a look. Not as rough and gritty sounding as an xtk or virus but does have that oberheim dark quality to it. i can't remember if they have percussion but am thinking they don't. It all depends on what sounds u r looking for but an xtk is hard to beat
Guest Mike D
Check out: www.sonicstate.com it has reviews, specifications and costs of second hand synths... it is a good site to get a fair idea.

Guest lifeform
go with the virus or the XTK... both are sweet synths, that'd i love to have my hands on. ditch the Ob12... nothing good there... IMO
Guest Mike Indidginus
I have an Indigo Ouroboros and it's great If you have enough space (I don't) - then maybe you should go for the full keyboard version (although it doesn't look as shiny )... Good luck amigo.
Guest Mike Indidginus
What I meant is I have an Indigo, Ouroboros... not, I have an Indigo Ouroboros. As far as I know Access haven't come up with that model yet
ouroboros
so... no ones tried out the karma?
Guest etherdesign
from what I understand the selling point on the karma is it's generative music abilities, kind of like an arpeggiator on steroids, apparently the sounds are pretty plain and more suited to music more like pop or rock.. never tried it though, this is just what i have read. Guest Michael
I tried the Karma out etherdesign is more or less right... it's tilted toward the Prefab side of things rather than the raw materials side I don't know enough of the specs to give a fair call on it what I do know is that I held down one key on the thing and it played a four-minute string arrangement with occasional timpani rolls and crescendos hahah i'd go with the Virus B any day
Guest Elysium Project
I would deffinently go for the Virus....it's much more unique when it comes to sound production! And the more you get into programming it the more fun it will become :-)
