Guest some dude
what program is best to learn a little bout music making? where did you begin with?
Strumpling
people keep saying fruity loops is good to learn with, but I couldn't learn to do SH!T with fruity loops. I'd start with one of those complicated ones, like Reason or Cubase. This way, once you master one of those, the other programs will be a snap -=- Matt/Strumpling -=- I'm workin on it! soem aeld
FastTracker 2 or Impulse Tracker2 are two good programs where you can learn the basics of music.. both programs are free the only bad thing about them is the bad sound quality and lack of good commands.. Guest Slidingtrancer
The big plus is to learn how to be creative without great sound or complex synthesis.....
Guest Elysium Project
Learn basics of music??? It seem to me that people that use tracker programs and don't even own a keyboard will never learn the basics of music.... I reccomend that you buy a midi keyboard and Logic or Cubase and some synth and start to learn how to actually create music from the keyboard. If you want to "draw" music in a tracker by all means do that but it won't teach you anything about the "basics" of music!
Guest lifeform
How can you say that Elysium? I'm not a tracker anymore but that's a huge understatement. I was a guitar and bass player for 4 years before i got into to electronics, but this lifestyle as a electronic musician costs thousdands of dollars! most people dont have that kinda money to spend right away. I learned electronic music on a tracker, impulse. I had a synth, and basic hardware and i just made samples with my synth and placed them in! I did this all in windows "wav play" .. so dont give me that crap man. whoever wrote this original post , disregrad everything Elysium just said. It's BS. you can learn the basics of music with 2 sticks and a can! you dont need high end hardware! (though it does help.)Peace .
Guest Slidingtrancer
Elysium, I dont think you are right there... I really don't I think trackers can learn you basics of beatbuilding, harmonies, whatever... Its VERY usefull especially when you watch what other people do in trackers. soem aeld
Elysium.. That's some BS! Have you even tried a tracker more than 1 one time? hmph!
Guest Elysium Project
Well i am not even going to comment your responses...you are welcome to have your opinions then I will have mine. And yes I have tried out trackers more than once and I still think they suck big time!
soem aeld
well, it's like me and MIDI then..
Guest Pwsede
Ofcourse trackers as they are today, sucks as "pro" equipment... But I started tracking in like 1987.. Trackers are GREAT in some senses (the note writing is perfect for psytrance compared to Cubase)... I work VERY fast in a tracker and can make a whole pretty good track within like 1-2 hours.. in cubase it takes me fucking weeks to make what I want, still I've been using Cubase for a couple of years!! (you have a much more "view" over notes in fasttracker2 for instance). Fasttrackers is nice for newusers because its harder to make decent songs with it (that way you LEARN), than to make decent songs in cubase... Atleast its that way for me.
