Guest dhatura
i'm trying to set up a home studio and i've been looking for a synth. i guess that my choices are centered around nordlead/supernova but i've never tried to use them yet and i could need some advice on the advantages and disadvantages of both, and the difference between them... and any suggestions for setting up a home studio... peace. shpongled
With Supernova (i have nova) you can play more paches at the same time (multitimbrality)... at least 8 propably more... in Nord it's only 4 parts... but Nord has better sound character (I have only tested it in a shop)... Supernova sounds cheezy but you can tweak those presets and make it sound better.. there is also effects (delay, reverb, flange etc...) for each pach in Supernova... you have to buy effect machine for Nord or you have to add effects after you have recorded your stuff to computer. You should also check Access Virus B and some Waldorf synths. Good synth review site --> www.vintagesynth.com
Guest lifeform
Lots of people like the nord as it is widely used in the psytrance scene. I've played with it at a local shops and never understood why it was so great. Maybe i'm missing something... But a supernova on the other hand... I like that board alot. alot more tweaking, which is good. and like shpongle said... the nord doesnt' have effects or a very good arp. ... and the supernova has good of both. but if your gonna spend 1800 bucks or so... I'd look into a Virus... Just like shpongle said (again)... That's the coolest one out there if ya ask me.
Guest yakm
lifeform the reason you don't understand why the nord is so great is because you have played with it in the shops only....have it for about three months and you start understanding its power...after six you start to reveal its secrets..... it is a synth that has alot of reading and learning to go go along with it.... just can't jump onto it and expect awesome psy sounds instantly... dhatura advantages = phat, evil , unpredictable sounds, and overall great sounds for psy and because it has no effects you have to work it harder to get results, got a good set of percussions on it that you can futher enhance and tweak to be stored on your memory card... disadvantages = expensive, no effects (for those who want instant effects) and as said above arp can be fiddly, aswell when you sometimes can't raise the rate smoothly....
