Guest etherdesign
Well.. looking at the front page, I guess we're supposed to submit our tracks in 96k mp3.. I'm not too happy about that as I am sure alot of other people aren't.. I understand that storage is hard to find and bandwidth is expensive.. but I would like to propose that files be submitted in either ogg vorbis or mpeg plus format, both allow a higher bitrate with less space and higher quality.. both of these are free formats, while there are many varying quality mp3 encoders (fraunhofer, lame, etc..).. the ogg or mpeg plus formats will save space and offer us a chance to encode a higher bitrate file with better quality than an mp3 file of the same size.. both have freely available plugins for winamp which are easy to install.. Anyways.. look into it.. I don't think I would be alone in saying I would be happier sending in a 96k ogg or mpeg plus file than a 96k mp3.. it would be much higher quality.. in fact you could even up the bitrate if you changed formats to 128 or 160.. they are really much better compression.. Just a thought.
Guest rx7style
I suggest using the newest LAME encoder with these settings: --abr 96 -h --nspsytune --athtype 2 --lowpass 16 --ns-bass -8 --scale 0.93 That way you get the maximum quality possible at ~96KB -- it will sound very close in quality [especially to people who can't tell a difference anyway] to 126 or even 160 ABR. I used the same settings except with the lowpass a bit higher and --ns-bass -6 at 128, and it was good enough for headphones on my mp3 player... that's all I think you can do. mars
this is not a problem of space or quality, this is a problem of rights... you know, when something has chances to be released you can't offer free download at acceptable quality, you just give enough for people to have an opinion... well i'd like to see you in Children's shoes. he's really got a lot to cope with, he has to satisfy everyone and he does that for free.
