Guest Epsilon
Virus, virus, virus and virus. I bought one while ago and I'm 100% happy with it. If you like gritty acid sounds I advice to choose virus. And now Access released Virus C so it seems that the best gets even better. Check www.access-music.de for details. Guest X-tul
I went to the Musikmesse in Frankfurt yesterday and I've been especially impressed by the new Virus C! It just sounds fantastic and beats waldorfs, nordleads and novations. (although the waldorf microQ is really good value for money and both Q and microQ have some nice exclusive features). But I couldn't stop playing on the VirusC...... Also check the Chameleon at www.soundart-hot.com Just a box with DACs, MIDI i/o, display, wheel, buttons, knobs, with DSPs inside. A free developers kit is available, so you can program it (in C/C++, assembler) and make it into any synth you like, or fx processor (or maybe hope that somebody else does). And look out for the Neuron synth www.hartmann-music.com based on neural networks, so you can morph between sounds and categories of sounds and use some neverheardthatbefore realtime manipulations. Guest Epsilon
Hooray! My Virus is broken! Murphy's law manifests it self. Just when I was preparing to make a incredible contest entry song the machine kills it self. I think I'll have to send it back to Access. Hmm... Maybe they send a KC back instead of KB. Naah... Too good to be true.

Guest Emil
Owner of Waldorf Q rack Roland JP8080 Clavia Nordlead 2 Virus indiogo * Basically get a Virus If its your first synth. * If its your first its better to have a synth WITH keyboard, awoid the rack deals. When thats said, all of the above synths can make growly sounds, and are good for psy. Nordlead has NO EFFECTS, but my yammy aw4416 has so Im lucky. The Indigo (virus B with slick interface) have a line in, so you can send your computer in and twist the knobs. The RolandJP8080 also, but just ot as good for twisting external sounds. BestRegards - Emil
Guest 3001
also look for waht kind of style u want to make, i fyou're looking for the israeli sound nord is the way to go, and it's nice it doesn't havei nternal fx so you're forced to use outboard fx which will make you sound differnet(and outboard fx are usualy higher quality), everyone uses internal fx on sytnhs WAYYY too much. Well anyways, if you're looking to make delta/midi miliz/ spirallienz stuff, i've heard that their favorite synth right now is the microwave XT(very very good for proggresive)...The virus a lot of poeple seem to like, but i' m worried about that because it's just about on every pop single, and so many people have one that you'll have to work awefully hard to differentiate yourself from others... As well as the internal FX are waht make the virus sound good the most(and it's filterS), but the oscs don't stand well on their own they're awefully weak. On the Q, DO NOT get a Q if it's your first synth, it's not a beginer's synth it's very much made for the intermediate to advanced synthesists. Very complex modualtions can go on with it. Nova sounds plasticky and is very good for dickweed and joke'n'fold trance : )... go for nord go for nord! nords are the best of Va...well the best digital synth out there right now is the XT : ) but it's not VA! it's far superior!!! Guest drav
dont dismiss the Nova/Supernova. I think they are great synths, but i know what you guys mean. Its harder to get them to really bite than on the Nords, but it is possible. For liquidy sounds (i dont know if you lot take acid, but i mean the sounds that really feel like they are dripping out of the speakers) ive heard that the Novation stuff is killer. Just a quick random bit....saw logic bomb at Kundalini and they were twisting some mad noises out of a Korg MS2000, and a nord lead, or maybe it was a virus, my eyes couldnt focus properly
