Guest Glejs
I'm about to invest my hard-earned cash in a pair of near-field studio monitors... It's either "Tannoy Reveal Active", or the "Behringer Truth" one's... I heard the Tannoy is better for making good mixes, but the Behringer has more powerful frequency response blablabla... Which one is the best value for money?? Thanks, ~Glejs
Guest Tim
I'm also invetigating - I am looking at either: Mackie HR824 ($1200 shipped) Event PS8 ($650-700 shipped) Tannoy Reveal ($550-650 shipped) From what I can discern, the Mackies are the best, but I am not usre if the PS8's will be good enough for the low-end. I've heard good things about the Tannoy, but they don't seem to have the bottom end I want. I am leaning toward teh mackies, but they are on the large side and 50-70% more money than the others. Also, I am contemplating a cheapo Behringer MX802 to give me a main volume knob and a headphone jack - isn't there something else which is less complicated that gives me a volume knob and a 2-output select? Guest Glejs
I've heard lots of good things about the HR824's.. so if you got the extra cash to spend, spend it.. Otherwise I think the Tannoy Reveals will do it.. You're right, they don't have that deep low-end bottom.. at least not in the spec sheet! I listened to them and I thought they sounded great.. But still I'm not sure what to do.. those Behringer Truth's sound good too.. ahhhhhhhh it's so hard!! ~Glejs
Guest PortaMento
This is only my opinion but.....I think the Behringers have quite a sharp and unpleasant high end. I haven't tried the Tannoys or the Mackies, but I think the Event PS8's and Alesis M1's sound much better than the Behringers. I bought the Events, because I thought their midfield was a bit better than the M1's. I don't know how much low end you need, but the Events go down to 35 Hz as I recall. Guest Glejs
Okay.. Will look at the Event PS8 .. I've been comparing the Tannoy Reveal's and Behringer Truth's today and I think I like the Truth's more.. they have much better bass and stuff. Anyways, if the Event PS8's are in the same price class I'll consider them Thanks, ~Glejs
Guest Tim
PS8 is my other option, but I think I can afford the Mackies, so I'll prolly get those.
Guest Pswede
I'm also getting a pair of studiomonitors... But I'm on a budget, so what should I get? (under $500)
Guest Glejs
Pswede, take a look at the Behringer Truth's.. They cost around 5500 kr.. Okay it's a little bit over your budget, but I've been comparing them with the "Tannoy Reveal" monitors, which cost closer to 7000.. I'm going for the Truth's. Maybe they don't sound as clean as the Reveal's, but on the other hand, the low-end bass is stronger! That's what made me choose them.. Anyways, I'm nowhere near a professional musician so I think they will suit me perfectly Would probably have bought the Event PS8 if they were a little bit cheaper, they sound really great....... ~Glejs
Guest suarajana
i got the ps8's even though the tannoys were the highest-recommended when i was buying. the events give a tasty low end and they are fairly priced, self powered and give a perfectly flat freq-response. made a huGE difference when i heard my stuff played on a club system. the bass response vibrates the floor juuuust right and nice cirspy mids and highs.
