Hello All.

I am in the market for a pair of monitors to use when I DJ. Can I get a decent pair for under $500? If so, any recommendations of what to look at or stay away from?

Thanks in Advance!

Bill

Why do you need monitors for Djing? You need them for music production where you still have effect on the finished sound but you jsut play records so any speaker will do. If you want to pay the extra for the monitor, you'll have a hell of a good speaker none the less. Häfler just released a ridiculously-low-priced monitor at under 200$ a piece. I don't recomend NS10s as they are used mainly for compatibility tests in studios. They are used to know what a mix will sound like on a cheap sound system. Not the best pace to be putting cash unless you already have a pro studio.

I want them for 2 reasons - because I want a really nice set of speakers for my room, and to try mixing through them in addition to mixing through the headphones.

Anyone have any feelings about JBL or Mackie?

Thanks,

Bill

JBL and Mackie are both kick ass...

I got Alesis - Monitor One's

They are pretty reasonable sound...

also I got JBL (forgot the model number now) which has more bass in it..

Go for JBL though.. coz they are known for good sound... also Tanoy makes good monitors.. the limit is endless depends on how much money u wanna spend,,,

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll look at the Event, JBL and Mackie.

@ Reece - I am not that rich, but I do have some cash ($500-$1000) that I want to invest in a really nice pair of monitors/speakers. I would use these in my home, and potentially as monitors when I dj.

@ All - Is there a difference, technically, between a "speaker" and a "monitor?" I had thought that a monitor was just a high end speaker that pros used in the studio. I don't care what its called, I just want the best speaker I can get for my budget :)

Thanks All!

Bill
