Guest drav
Not a lot on this board about soft synths so ill have a bit of a rant. If you aint got any gear but cant afford a decent synth (£500+) take a look at reaktor. It is a BEAST!! In fact forget hardware completely i say reaktor sounds just as good and it is modular so if you need something extra for your sound you can bolt it on to a pre made synth or make youre own synths from scratch. Basslines are unbelievable, i cant get enough of this program. True it probably isnt much use in a live rig (not much software is) but for making noises this is the Sh*t
Guest kilian
couldn´t agree more.. i hardly use my hardware stuff since getting reaktor.

Guest drav
ok you can use it two ways(and by the way im no expert on this). First of all whip out a nice easy synth to use like the SH2K and @!#$ around with it until you know what all the knobs and sliders do. For trance (and im assuming you all like trance try holding down some low keys and messing round with the filters, LFO rates and the ADSR envelope. This will help you get an idea of how everything works. The other half of reaktor is the synth building bit. Lets say you like the ADSR envelope on the SH2k, and the ENV slider that lets you use the ADSR envelope to modulate the filter, but wish you had a graphical display to let you see the ADSR envelope in visual form (very helpful i find). With a hardware synth you would be shafted but in reaktor you can just bolt one into the structure and there you go. It looks very confusing to start with, and you really need a manual (borrow beg or steal one) but when you begin to get your head round it it becomes pretty simple (as with everything in music). This open ended system means you can build machines to do pretty much anything you want, for instance my friend built a machine yesterday that warps speech far better (for the psytance style) than any of the commercial voice programs can. They may have features more advanced, but the beauty of reaktor is that you can build machines that are tailored to do exactly what you want, because you built em Oh by the way, no i dont work for Native Instruments I just want to tell people how cool this program is...in fact id say it is the future of synthesisers. Hardware is essential cos of all those lovely knobs and faders, but software is the future of noise making. Rant over
Guest dE-fECT
where do ya get Reaktor? and how mutch dos it cost, or can you get it some where for free?
Guest drav
ive played with some cracked versions of reaktor and they generally open and run ok, but the versions ive had you cant get to run as VST instruments. Since this is pretty much the most important bit, it makes the cracked versions rather useless. Id highly recommend buying it, just for the excellent manual, and the fact that that if you are a registered user you have access to loads of stuff on the native instruments website. Also i kinda like the concept of the company behind Reaktor. They are a pretty small company specializing in hot @!#$ software. I havent seen a bad release from them, and feel like i should support their work by buying it. Conversely I have no problems with "aquiring" programs from the larger companies, mainly because they can afford it, and are run by predatory money grabbing pricks
Guest hogus
I do 90% of my work with Reaktor... from building synths to digital effects. Learn to build your synths from scratch... The presets are messy and don't reflect the true potential of this program. If you need to get more advanced than the info in the manual and on the web you can always search for info on producing sounds with the Nord Modular. Anything you can do with the Modular you can do in Reaktor...and more. Don't try and understand it all at once... It will take a few months to understand how to synthesize sounds effectively. Read anything you can find about sound synthesis on the web... once you've done a bit of reading you'll start to understand what all the modules in reaktor do and how you're supposed to connect them together. With a solid background knowledge there's no limit to what you can do with this software.
