Guest Johnny Digital
I'm thinking about getting a distortion pedal and/or compressor (one of those cheap things used by guitarists/bassists) to enhance my bass sounds anyone has any experience using that ? Should i go for guitar pedals or bass pedals ? Usually my bass is mono so it's easy to route it to a single exit in my 505 and plug it to a pedal then mix it back... Maybe i'll go to a music store where's a 505 and try and their pedals... i don't know... i will also try and wah-wah for filter... just to see the crazy sound i get from it... Guest lifeform
hmm... compresssion... cheap things? Compression is very important in any mix, regardless in what you are recording. And those single pedals are worthless when it comes to compression. Get a nice rackmount dedicated to compression alone. good pedals... Electro Harmonix : Big Muff Pi. ( my personal fav.) but any DOD death metal or similar works fine. Line 6 POD or the Behringer V-Amp 2 are also great. And youll just look like a dork with a WahWah pedal on bass, 'nuff said. Guest Johnny Digital
have you ever tryed a distorted bass sound (or whatever instrument) throught a peaking filter ? the wah wah is just like a peaking filter jv
Guest Reece
maybe your money would be better spent on a new synth...? :-)
Guest Johnny Digital
Maybe 20 pedals are cheaper than one synth
Guest lifeform
Yes, i used to own a wah pedal for my guitar and bass, and i'm much rather just use a filter to get that "peaking" sound, and i dont really make my bass "move" that much either. Wah pedals are for solos and funk music, not exclusively ... but you get the idea..
Guest 30001
actually i'd suggest a phazer to make your 505 sound more analog, well only an analog phaser, check out the ibanez ph99 http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/hal3001/lst?...rc=bc%26.view=l that's a link tto it in use on an edp wasp i had. On distortion, I usually use a guitar armp! they work WONDERS, but i also us ethem on analog synths, it might make life miserable from a digital synth. Also i hear that the turbo pro rat distortion is great. Supposed to be the most acidy, 303+pro rat= played out distorted 303 sound:)...it's got a compresssor+distortion rolled up into 1. Also on your mixer try overloading the preamp, that can lead to a lot of the classic sounds, especially the classic rave kick, storm rave to be exact...remove some bass, up the mids(more punch) increase the preamp gain to distortion lower the fader, then mix the fader in so it sounds nice with the other tracks......actually for distortion i used to take broken recievers, and stereo equipment and just hit them a bunch and then use them, lead to some very *interesting* sounds:)
