Guest Mike D
Ok, I've nearly got the oney saved for a new PC, $2000 Aussie. It is multi use, for games and workd, but also for using Traktor DJ Studio and Fruity Loops and eventually Reason and Cubase once I save up more. I have a massiv ehardrive, it is a P4 1.2 Ghz. It has about 500 megs of ram. What I need to know is: What Soundcard to get for about $300-500? What Speakers to get for about $500? And should I get a sub woofer for it as well? Thankyou :-)
Guest Mike D
Actually, I'd be quite happy to run my stereo through the soundcard as speakers until I can save maye about $1000-1500 Aussie for good monitors, but that would take at least a year hehe. Guest lifeform
Sounds cool mike d, glad your finally getting all your stuff together! If your looking for a cheap soundcard that gives you really good results... I'd say check out the Delta series from Midiman/M-Audio. I have a Delta 44, and i just ordered a new front attachment for it.. the Omni I/O... which gives me 2 headphone outs and 2 mic pre's for 200 bucks... and effects in... So that's something you could look into... Delta 44 alone is about 250 US dollars. If you dont need 4 in's and 4 out's... Check out the M-Audio Audiophile 2496, which is about 170 US dollars. For a long time i went out with monitors just because i thought that the money i had could go to more 'important' things for my music... But now that i got my Event PS8's, it's a whole nother world... There's lots of decent monitors out there for less than 500 US dollars (sorry.. dont know aussie currentcy) Can't really suggest monitors... You just gotta go to a music shop and bring your favorite cd in and hear em' out. And I dont think a subwoofer is really important right now. Though regular monitors dont really "kick" that hard, you get a very idea of how your recordings will sound on other speakers, and what not. Hope this helps out mike. : ) I'm pretty bubbly right now... so i hope this makes sense.
Guest Johan
I might have somthing for ya: Soundcard: SoundTrack Audio DSP24 Value (about $200 in sweden) Supports ASIO2(No midi delay) and has enough soundquality to get you an orgasm... unfortunately, you will need an extra bracket if you want to use midi in/out and digital in/outputs... Then you would have to get SoundTrack Audio DSP24 Value Bracket for about $90 When it comes to the monitors, my personal oppinion/experience says that, a separate high-end amp + a couple of pretty high-quality speakers does it all. but since (I suppose) your budget's got a limit, just like mine, I would go for a second hand pair of active monitors... (with buildt-in amps, customized for the speakers) Good Luck /Johan [Weirdo Electronix]
Guest Rishi
Go with the Delta 44 for the soundcard and you can't go wrong with Event PS8 as monitors (Damn good value for money).
