Audio recordings in cubase

Guest Paulo

I am trying to record my midi tracks onto audio tracks in

cubase but i can't get it to work.

I press record and the result is an audio part with nothing in it.

I have the manual, the big one butit dosen't help.

I don't have the getting started book, where i think the info is.

I know this is very basic stuff but some help would really be appreciated.

More precisions would have been welcome, but

Here's some basic verifs i would like to suggest you to do, hoping it will help:

- Right button on the volume icon in the Quicklaunch,

- Choose 'Adjust Audio Properties"

- Click on the "Play" icon, and verify that the devices you want to record are not muted. You can verify the levels while playing the tracks.

- Click on the "Record" icon, and verify that the stereo mixer is selected.

Verify and adjust the different devices levels (Wave, sw synth, line-in, etc)

What kind of MIDI tracks are you talking about? Is the MIDI going to an external synth, a software synth VSTi or software synth via loopback, soundfont synth on SB Audigy, Live, AWE?

I assume everything is set up as it should be (line-in as a recording source etc.)

But which soundcard do you have?

SB Live native drivers will drive you crazy in Cubase. I had the same problem, a blank wave file when I tried to record....

Later I discovered that there were 3 asio drivers that can be selected in the audio properties screen:

Asio DirectX Driver

Asio DirectX Full Duplex Driver

Asio Multimedia Driver

I only got something recorded with the duplex driver, but somehow my recordings had a delay so midi wasn't synced to audio...

Anyway, if you have an SBLive I'd recommend these drivers: http://come.to/sblive

Installing them can be a pain and it takes some reading to figure everyting out.

After installation there was a fourth Asio driver: kX Asio latency 21, audio recording went perfect!

21ms latency that is... these drivers helped me a lot!

final note: if you or anyone else is going to try these special drivers, please note that Asio recording is disabled by default. Refer to the drivers help file on how to enable Asio recording through line-in.

Also, these drivers are made for musicians, games can cause problems.

Paulo,

like funkytrance said, at least verify you have your

"Line in" recording level set to non-zero value.

(I suppose your ext synth is connected to line in of your soundcard)

Unmute the MIDI parts you want to record

Then select the audio part you want to record

Hit play + Record.

With my former soundcard I noticed that if I let the

windows mixing console in Record mode (where you can see the input level in a meter and select which input to record) nothing is recorded in cubase.

If I put the windows mixing console in Play mode. Everything OK.

Perhaps it is the same thing for you.

why dont you just "export" that track when it's solo'd, select you want it to go to the track, or the pool or whatever works best for you.
