Guest alex
Hello, do you know if a processor pentium 2 with 166 mega hertz is enought to make music, or it's not important? thanks!

Guest clear
I heartily disagree. Computing power is NOT, I repeat, not an issue or a barrier to making music. The computer is just a tool. I'm not saying that it will be easy, but you can definitly make music with a 166 P2. It won't be able to run all the fancy new software, but that's what everyone else is using. So, you have a better chance of achieving a unique sound. Necessity is the mother of invention. Hell, you may even get to write your own software. Good luck peace, Clear p.s. the computer is JUST a TOOL!!!! music comes from within.
Guest bugbread
Think about it this way: old goa was made with dual pro walkmans used to play samples into a third walkman. That's beyond low tech. So, with that computer, it CAN be done, but expect to be doing a LOT of workarounds and such, DON'T expect to run any of the current software, and realize that your music will end out sounding more like old Shiva Shidapu than new Infected Mushroom (or whatever the minimal/prog equivalent is). You can make it, but it will not sound as well produced as new stuff, unless you REALLY know your way around your computer.
Guest Mike Indidginus
Agreed music comes from within, *but* if you want to run Cubase or Logic to sequence the music that comes from within you're going to need more than a 166Mhz processor. I doubt you'd even be able to open either program, much less start writing a track. The reason that these 2 software packages are " what everyone else is using" is because they allow the best results. Depends what you want to achieve I guess. Guest eXpulse
I'd say no even pen 4 is not enough if you use a lot of soft synth if you just use it to sequence your hardware , it's gonna be more then enough

Guest Slidingtrancer
I have a P3 500, 192 Ram and I have daily CPU problems... I couldn't do @!#$ on a P2 166 to be honest, tracking prolly.... Of course its possible to get a good sound, but it would take a lot of time to program that and above all, a real audiomagician.
