Guest PPP
I recently bought a synth (nord), a soundcard(mia) and some monitors. I go into cubase or logic to record my MiDi parts and it works. But I don't know how to bounce the midi tracks into audio tracks. I select an audio track for recording, press record hoping my midi track will be recorded onto that audio track. But there is a little m in the Mute column of the audio track. Something gets recorded but it is only silence. I really need some help, anything.. Am i doing things wrong??(that's probably it, as i am beginner with cubase and logic..) Is there something wrong with my audio setup in cubase or logic? Also where could i find some good tutorials on cubase or logic?
Guest haemogoblins
Have you routed the output of your midi synths back into your soundcard first(either straight in or through a mixer?
Guest PPP
Yeah, the midi outputs go to Usb and then to computer. And output of synth go to my mixer.
shpongled
Audio does not go thru midi leads. You have to connect Nord's audio output (the one that goes to your mixer at the moment) to Mia's input.
shpongled
...or connect mixer's output to Mia's input and then Mia's output to amp/monitors. You can do it... I know because I also have Mia.
Guest Lifeform
i dont know why people dont grasp this... Just solo your midi channel and hit "MIXDOWN" Yer Midi channel instantly becomes a wav file, just import it back into cubase/logic.
shpongled
But that works only for VSTi synths.......... he is talking about real hardware synth (Nord).
Guest PPP
My setup is like this: Main outs from mixer to Mia inputs, Mia outs to mixer. Nord out to mixer. Then tape out from Mixer to Amp. My mixer is a Midiman Mixim 10. shpongled i try both setups but it dosen't work, i don't have any more sound. could you tell me how your setup is like?? Guest phlux0r
Stupid question but, did you set up the correct audio devices in Logic (or Cubase)? I've got an 8in/out sound card and basically only use In1/2 and Out1/2 at the moment. All my HW gear goes into the mixer, then the mixer main out goes into my soundcard 1/2 in. My soundcard 1/2 out goes into my amp. So I can monitor all the sounds going thru my soundcard and if I can hear them, I can record them... . I know this setup is a bit dumb for multitrack recording but hey, it works for me . In Logic, I have all my Audio In/Out's assigned to Audio Objects, then in the track window, I choose the Auditrack that I've assigned to In1/2 and press record and it works. If I want to record only one instrument, i solo that MIDI track otherwise I can record everything that comes into the soundcard input at once if I wanted to. Guest PPP
It's not a stupid questionactually. I tried many different setups, which "appear to be ok", but i still cannot record audio tracks. I am new to Cubase or Logic, and cannot afford to buy either right now (I'll probably buy Logic in a couple of months) So i have no manual and am pretty lost... Guest PPP
How should i configure my mia soundcard in the audio setup window in cubase?? Which driver should i use for best result??
shpongled
"ASIO Echo Mia (or Mona/Layla/etc...)" driver and use buffer size 512(you can set it from Asio control panel whitch is right under the dropdown menu of where you can choose drivers).... and check from Mia's own Console Panel that you have not muted any channels. Also check that inputs are enabled in Cubase (it's called "VST inputs" in some of the Cubase's dropdown menus).
Guest phlux0r
Dunno if this will help but there's a reasonably good tutorial on how to set up and optimise Logic on the computer music magazine site: http://www.computermusic.co.uk/tutorial/logicindex.asp
