Recording to DVD

I have always been really interested to ask this. Ig you record music to DVD instead of CD, DAT or Vinyl, does it make any difference? Is the quality much better? Do the sounds sound more "3D"? If so, why hasn't it taken over?? I'm just wondering is it possible to make psytrance and chillout so the sounds don't just come from the sides and the centre but from behind, from the corners from every direction, like movie sound FX? I know it probably owuld not work with portable players, DVD in ya bag hehe, but for home listening and at bush doofs?? Also, how expensive do you think it would be, much more than a cd??

Thanx!!

Maybe about 2% can listen to Audio DVD's (requires real Surround system)

and very few artists can MAKE surround songs... Its quite difficult to make a song with 2 channels (stereo), then what about 5*2??? hehe ;)

Yeah, I don't think that Surround sound dance music is going to take off in a hurry. That would mean that a lot of people would have to do a lot of (expensive) changes to production and playback. Sound systems would have to be rigged for surround and the producers would face a whole heap of new challenges (not that it wouldn't be interesting). I'm sure that it would be fun to try it tho...

dvd stands for digital versatile disc and is in effect just a beefed up cd-rom

you don´t have to encode audio in surround to get a dvd to play it back

however it needs to support one or the other format developed for stereo playback of 24/96 tracks. super cd is one of the standards i can´t remember more, but this is not standard equipment and will take some time to get to the consumers but the soundquality should make it obvious why we need such products. it´s not more expensive to build a 24/96 "cd"player the technology is already there, i guess we just have to be patient and wait. as for surround i´m afraid that this will take even longer but hope spring eternal

If you want to make surround audio, you have to make you mix in 5.1, first you need a sofware that make 5.1, (logic audio, or pro tools...), and the sound

system for doing that, (something like home teather) and then separate the tracks for example:

sub woofer(center): kick

stereo front speakers(left & right):bass line, sample voice

stereo back speakers(left back & right back):synths and pads,

if you have the money for doing that congratulations!cause is a little bit

expensive
