Guest Lifeform
Try this... Attack: 1-5 MS Release 0.2/Auto Ratio: 5-10:1 Knee: Hard Gain: 5-15 db This also applys for a snare. Compression might not be your only problem. Try cutting out freq. around 400 to get rid of the boxiness, and maybe boost around 60hz. Guest UrhgurH [etnoscope]
Often when a kick or bass is to low in volume and punch, it really won´t help to compress it that much. The most commen problems is one of two things: 1. the kick/bass is mixed to low!!!. if you´ve allready maxed out your dynamic, try to lower everything but the kick/bass. This should give more dynamics to them and make them more audioble. 2. the kick is of poor quality. Try eq'ing it to get rid of bad frequences, (read above post). Or you could make one yourself,by first using a droping sinewaveform. Ex. from 80-50 hz in 0,15 sec. Then make a snapping noise by using another droping sine. Ex. from 10 khz - 400/100 hz in 0,01/0,03 sec. Now mix the two together (using mix ratio to decide snap ratio). This should produce a fairly clean basskick, and you can compress it to get that "phat" sound.
