Guest Lifeform
Just interested... What kinda drum tools do you guys use for yer trax? I've been using Waldorf Attack and Reason's ReDrum, and i'm getting kinda sick of the limiations. In attack you can make up some wicked sounds, like goa kicks definitly, but it all just sounds too.... Synthetic for me, like the snares... Sound like crap. And it eats up A LOT of CPU!!! I'm thinking about going out and buying Native Instrument's Battery. What do you all think? Is it worth the 150 dollar investment?
Guest Pswe
Battery is really good! I use it all the time... It's definitly worth the money. It's so much better than HALion (for drums & fx atleast). The ONLY thing missing in Battery is filters but it's easy to put up an external FX-plugin (Battery has 8(!!) Stereo Outputs and 8 (or 16?) Mono Outputs). Guest Lifeform
Excellent! I actually went out and got Absynth :D !! But i have lots of extra money for right now so i might go back and get Battery. So.. Pswe... How are the preset kits in there? The Dub one sounded pretty cool from the Mp3 sample i heard at the NA site. Usable? Quality? Filters arn't too big of a problem... If I filter my drums i ussually mix those down as a seperate wav file. Cause most of the filter plugs i use eat up alot of my CPU, i try to keep my shit around 30 or 40 CPU in cubase. Thanks for the reply !
shpongled
Native Instruments also have Kontakt whitch has a lot more stuff that Battery........ like EQ, filters, reverb, flange, phaser, distortions(very good for kick drums), dalay etc... and yes... it's a VSTi. Guest Lifeform
Yes sir Shpongled... I have that as well. Picked it up about a month ago. It's nice for voice minipulation in real time and random FX that i'll sample off my synths, but gets way to busy if you load all those drum samples in, and i tend to use alot of samples. Thanks for the suggestion though SHpongled
Guest Kits
Hey all Lifeform , what is your setup? just intrested... about Drum Tools, well, for the kick at least I think a lot of its sound comes from proper compressing, eqing and filtering... I find I can get great sounds by starting of with a decent sample or synth sound and perfecting it with the mentioned above... I spend some time analyzing the spectrum of both the bassline and the kick... keep in mind that the key to the sound of your track is in porperly layeringthe frequencies of your kick and bassline... Liform, if Waldorf or any synth uses up to much CPU than get your midi vst to sound perfect and than render the channel to wave and then you'll get that sound you needed as a sample/loop without hogging so much CPU for the VST... plz correct me if I'm wrong on anything Kits

Guest drav
make youre own kick drums in soundforge using the FM synthesis. Well easy. Also I agree with Kits, EQ certainly helps mould the sound a lot. EQ seems to be the fine tuner for most sounds, but with the kick and bass it seems to be more of a creation tool. You can make a fairly shit kick sound good with a nice bit of EQing, whereas a shit lead line will still sound shit even if you is masterful at EQing. Someone talk to me about compression, I dont know much about it Drav (sometimes MEGABEAT)hehe
Guest nick
try to get your source sounds to sound as good as possible without eq. you cant polish a turd!
