Guest Andreas of Amygdala
Is it possible to use the VstPlugins without using VST at all? - Sort of a utility for acting VST's part, so I don't need to install VST, and yet be able to use the plugins...? Thanks in advance .oO Andreas Oo.

Guest Lifeform
Most new VST plugs, or atleast the nice ones... Come both VST and DXi compatible... So you could use your DXi plugs in other software like wavelab (where you can use VST plugs as well) or Sound forge, er literally any newer software / sequencer. Maybe i should have put this the other way around ... DXi's come VST compatible... DXi is basically the universal audio effect flormat. Hope this helped... Guest Mike Indidginus
Hi Andreas, You can use VST plugins as DX plugins in an editor like Soundforge say, but I believe you need a special conversion app for the plugins that don't come as VST & DX. But for the life of me I can't remember what it's called. Not very helpful! But it can be done
Guest Andreas of Amygdala
Thanks everybody - I already have some effects pluged into soundforge - but the Waldorf Attack! doesn't appear there Can that be done? Hate to sound stupid (but I am...) What is DXi..? I use Voyetra's Digital Orchestrator Pro, so no help there, alas... Thanks again
Guest Mike Indidginus
I think the program I was talking about only converts VST plugins rather than VST instruments... Sorry dude. How are the tunes coming along? I heard your track on the Psychedelic Sparks CD when I was at Anoebis' house for the Psynews party - it's good
Guest Mike Indidginus
Found it... this is what I was talking about.... VST Plugin convertor thingy
Guest psychopat
Hi Andreas ! I think you should give a try to Steinberg Wavelab. It is a high quality wave editor ( just like soundforge) and it has native VST fx support. FruityLoops can be of help for samples because you can import short wave files in the embedded sampler, then send the sampler output to a Fx stereo-bus and have up to 8 VST fx chained. Once it is ok, you can export back to wav files with Fx on them. If your goal is to process long wave file (I'm sure you want to tweak that Waldorf filter all along a raw-synth audio part) go to Wavelab or VST. DXi are to Microsoft what VSTi are to Steinberg. They are virtual instruments (synth, rythm machine sampler, etc...). So they are sound generators (out only). It is different from VST plugins = DX plugins = sound effects processor (in/out). Some host applications can run VSTi, DXi or both + more.... psychedelic regards,
Guest reece
Andreas, Waldorf Attack is a VST instrument, wavelab only runs FX. Wavelab - no sequencer,... therefor, - no instruments. :-)
Guest psychopat
oupsss, Yes, Yes, Reece is right. Sorry, I read too quicly and thought you would like to use the Waldorf filter. Like Reece said, Attack is an VST intrument (out only) so you need a VSTi compatible sequencer to send some notes to it. For Attack you will need a VSTi host like Cubase, FruityLoops or Logic. Guest Andreas of Amygdala
Right, thanks everybody - this helps a lot I suppose I'd have to write my own program to use the synth-plugins/instruments/whatever the way I wan't - if only I had the time... I need an app to be able to trigger single shots, whithout the need for a sequencer - that can of course be done with a sequencer, but easy of use is of big importance - as usual I'll check into it later this summer then, and naturally let you know if I figure out a clever way Thanks Mike for the kind words - the composing is going just fine, now that I have 2½ months off from school... I have three new goodies recorded - in a new style... You'll probably be able to hear one of them in the next contest Thanks again everyone - cheers and squirks!! Guest etherdesign
Well, you can run a small VST host app in the background and send MIDI to it with Digital Orchestrator.. you'll need a soundcard that can handle multiple outs or multiple clients using the same output though.. You can try Simple VST Host it's the third box down from the top, it's basically just a simple host that loads a VSTi and allows you to play/trigger with MIDI sounds like what you're looking for.. otherwise there's also Plogue Bidule which is a bit more of a modular environment and more extendable.. Both programs are free. Hope this helps.. Good luck..
