Although I personally DJ using records, in all honesty CDs are probably the more cost effective way to go now a days. The majority of psy-labels are predominately releasing on CD rather than vinyl these days, so when things do come out on vinyl the tend to sell out pretty quickly and become rather hard (and expensive if you live in places such as the US like I do) to get. Gearwise, Pioneer's CDJ units seem to pretty much be the standard. As far as mixers.... well alot of that is personal preference, but I might suggest avoiding bells and whistles like mad effects or bpm counters. Most DJs overuse (and poorly use) the effects and learning to spin on mixers using bpm counters more often than not ends up becoming a serious crutch for the DJ which leaves its users almost unable to spin on a mixer without them. Use your ears.. they are cheaper and more accurate anyways.

thanx a ton:)...and about the 'mixers' ur talking about...any particular one that i should look out for?...both with/without bpm counters...cuz it'll probably take a while before my ears can pick up on the 'beat'...and like u said...i don't wanna get stuck with the bpm counters for the rest of my life...so maybe one where u can 'turn off' the bpm counters?

again...thanx a lot!

I know some of the Pioneer mixers have BMP counters, but I never paid much attention to mixers after I got one, so I can never remember model numbers or anything. Simpler is better. A couple channel, high mid and low eqs and a crossfader is really all you need. I would still advice against even bothering with bpm counters at all, but if you must get one with them you can always do what what my roommate did with the % plus or minus display on his turntables... he just stuck electrical tape over them...

The BPM reader on the pioneer decks I own is an innacurate tool at best!!!

I'd really advise you DON'T buy a mixer for this as pretty soon you won't need it! In fact they can be just downright annoying!

Get a decent MIXER, not a decent light show.

I too am thinking about getting a CD deck. The local shop here is offering American DJ gear.. apparently the deck has dual CD and an integrated mixer... any experience with this brand?

On a somewhat unrelated not..

Has anyone tried playing a high bitrate mp3 (192 etc) on a PA system.. I suspect it would sound terrible.. or is this feasible? Having a somewhat low budget, I was thinking I could flesh out my collection this way.
