Guest n/a
here is question for you guys... i'd like to get some answers from people in the industry, if possible... please, everyone feel free to post your oppinion... i've never released any music before. lets say i make a psytrance album. and copyright it... if i make like a 1000 copies (CD's professionally mastered, and duplicated, with booklet, like the ones u get in a store - not home made ones), having some well produced/written music ... would i be able to sell them myself? of course i would have to promote it like crazy on the net... obviously a record label would sell them much easier, but it's hard to get signed, isn't it? would it be a better idea to send, say like 500 of the CD's out to record companies, maybe they'll listen to them? i heard they get so many CD's every week, they just don't listen to them at all... is it better to send just one-two songs? maybe they'll put one on a compilation? (how do songs get on compilations?) or just send out the full album? my purpose on earth is to create spiritual music for the people!!! when i realized this, i started saving up money for gear, investing in professional equipments... for years i've been focusing all my concentration on music production... the time has come... now i feel confident, now i feel that my music is ready to be shown... and i'm probably not the only one ... there are hundreds of people out there feeling this way... i have so many questions... i'd like to do everything the right way... the quality of the music is very important to me.. as well as the content... i'm spending all the time that needs to be spent on making a professional record... but when it'll be done, whats next? how does "getting discovered" work? how does "getting signed" work? Guest Protex Midget
You can't market your music without a record label - it costs tons of money (mastering, Printing the cd's, distributing the cd's, promotion...) I think you shouldn't give up on the idea of getting signed... if you have sent demo's to some record labels, and they have turned you down, then ask them what's wrong with them music, and then you can work on it, and improve... don't give up, work on your music, and send it out to various labels... Good luck :-)
Guest Viktor Vogel
If you are not getting signed , normally that means that your music won't sell, if it won't sell tht means you gonna have a hard time selling it yourself
Guest phlux0r
There are also a lot of small labels that do sign up fresh, unknown artists esecially if their work is of good quality and sounds good. So I'd suggest you approach smaller labels first and see how it goes. Obviously, various labels "dig" various styles so you should choose the labels to approach that release music of the most similar style to yours. You don't need to master your trax for your demo CD, whoever signs you up will provide mastering (hopefully . What is your music style by the way? Good luck... Guest n/a
thank you guys for the helpful answers... well i've never sent out a demo to any labels yet... because i knew that even though i had nice musical content, the production just wasnt awesome in quality.. for me both are equally important.. it would've been a waste of money and time sending out demos that dont sound good... >>If you are not getting signed , normally that means that your music won't sell, if it won't sell tht means you gonna have a hard time selling it yourself<< so it's that simple? if the music sucks they won't sign me, if its great they'll sign me? i thought they just dont even give a chance to listen to the incoming cd's at all... >>if you have sent demo's to some record labels, and they have turned you down, then ask them what's wrong with them music<< they dont have the time to tell every single artist their oppinion do they? ... do they even keep track of the songs they're getting? how would they remember my song? whats better? sending out full albums? or just 1-2 songs? or it doesn't matter? my style... hm... is kinda like classical music (constantly changing melodic flow) made for synths over some heavy psy drumbeats... i love melodies a lot, but i also love minimal music with lots of drums.. so i'm trying to combine the two, which is not so easy... oh well... i'll definitelly let you guys hear my music, but first i'd like to copyright the tracks... thanks for the help again.. Guest psw
Let me just say that FEW psytrance labels DO mastering on their releases (esp. compilations!)... TIP World doesnt do mastering according to a reliable source...
