Guest Marc
Hi, Can anyone give me some hints how to create those populair Psy basses. - what kind of synth is used most of the time? - what time step is used, 1/8 notes or 1/16 and which length (1/64)? - what kind of root notes are used, A1 or C1? Thanks a lot, Marc
shpongled
- what kind of synth is used most of the time? There are meny synths (analogue and digital) that can create good bass drum sounds.... Here are some kicks that i made with Roland SH-101 analogue synth. - what time step is used, 1/8 notes or 1/16 and which length (1/64)? You can use all of those but you have to tweak ADSR-envelope to make them fit for a sertain BPM. (ADSR = attack, decay, sustain, release) - what kind of root notes are used, A1 or C1? It doesn't matter IMO.
Guest Marc
Thanks for your reaction. What do you mean with the folowing: >You can use all of those but you have to tweak ADSR-envelope >to make them fit for a sertain BPM. (ADSR = attack, decay, >sustain, release) I think that a lot of times the bass will be played on every 16th note (don't know for shure). I know how to use the EG, but how do you use them on your bassline? I have problems to create those short basses they use often in bassline riffs. I don't know what kind of sound it is (saw, sine, etc). Marc
Guest the polinick
get the simsynth and sample a nice bass sound, i think thats a good start, you can make it as short as u want...almost....that may be a nice start.
Guest blink
one quick way to make basses is to use a saw wave and cut the resonance way down. also addinga little tight reverb helps to add depth to the sound. the real treat is when you master your bassline to see where it will really take the song. try t-racks (ik-multimedia) for a great software mastering prog blink

Anyway... in basslines you can use 16th notes or 8th notes.... or both to make the rhythm more interesting.
Guest The Nothing
use sawtooths at a low octave. or a saw and square. tricks to beef up a bass: 1. 1 use a multiband compressor on it. 2. add some distortion as a send effect (original signal + [original + distorion]) 3. play with adding a little chorus (also as a send) have fun -Dan PS. (search some of the previous posts on this board...there are alot of threads that cover this topic in more depth)
Guest Bliss
Placement of the standard psy bassline is 1/16 notes With the Kick/BassDrum on 1,5,9,13ect. Bassline is commonly on 1, 345, 789, 111213, 1516,1 ect In that sequence you can slide 1,5,9,13 to a 1/8 note give it a glide feeling or extention Can bounce up 1, 13....2 or 3 semitones raising the pitch Or with the kick/bd in same Use 3/4 notes on 3,7,11,15 Bb is a common pitch used.... Guest Marc
Thanx Blizz (and others), I tried the bassline on 1, 3,4,5, 7,8,9, 11,12,13, 15,16,1 ect. but in that case you dont get the "d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d" speedy bassline. I tried this: - Pro52, patch "Warm Fuzzy" - note on every 16th, with a length of 1/64 This will come very close to the well known Psybasslines. Guest Slidingtrancer
Another way is a bassline like 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,... Everytime play the same note with maybe a change at the end of every 9 Then play around with the volume to give it some rhythm and feel and bring some phasing in there ( not too much)
Strumpling
lots of people like to hop up and down whole octaves in strange patterns. if you do this with two synths on L and R filling in eachother's "negative space" its creates a strong effect.
