Guest Ankh4noid
Yesterday I sent an e-mail to various artists mainly within the psytrancegenre asking for their opinion about this matter of dj-sets online. Here is the letter I sent; "Hello! A website, www.trance.nu, does not allow me to publish a link to my website that host some dj-sets that contains tracks that are produced by various artists within the psytrancegenre. So I wonder how you as artists and producers feel about those dj-sets? Are they illegal in your opinion or is is good that there are peole out there that try to have fun, or perhaps even make a living, by producing, promoting themselfs as dj's using tracks that are copyrighted, but tracks that they have bought at a retailer? My Questions are; *Are those dj-sets that are online in high quality and that are available for anyone to download and listen to actually legal and allowed? *Am I as a websiteowner obligated to report to a producer if a dj want to publish his/hers dj-sets - containg the producers copyrighted material - on my website?" - - - - - - - - - - BLT replied: "I don't have a problem with my music on your mix as long it is a released music and u don't put my unreleased trax in the internet... For me is a big honor to be played by DJ's around the globe, so I guess I have no problem with that, on the contrary. Once again, I have to say it - as long as the trax u use for your mix are already released music.. Bom Bom Yuli" - - - - - - - - - Shahar @ Istrance.com replied: "Dunno mate, you'll have to ask a lawyer, but I have a feeling that the answers are no and yes- or try to get permission from the artists/labels. Bom! Shahar. www.isratrance.com" - - - - - - - - - Please give me your thoughts and suggestions about this. I am currently awaiting answers from RIAA and International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.
Guest Bodhisattva
Well: You all heard about PUSH , DOLT DISH, CRASHGUARD, MUSIX, etc. Well Those big names are from my colleague musician and he once was asked to put up a set , he arranged it all, sent cd's and NEVER EVER heard anything from them again! That is something I wanted to share with you guys before you start sending mixes over there ! BUT : My opinion , MUSIC is about MAKING music , not about earning cash so i would 'not (personally) give a damn if my music would be played all over the globe in high quality MIXED (because a mixed set is still different from a MP3 song) dj sets..... It is rather GOOD to have your music played Artists who don’t like their music being mixed and promoted and world widely distributed should move to the North Pole and keep it for their selves :) Of course Psy artists have an other "way of mind" then lets say the money slickers like Metallica Ohm shanti ! Guest nick
it is illegal ......oh yes. you see the stuff they right on the cd's? 'copying, public performance, and hiring, directly of this recording is prohibited.' does anyone in psy trance give a shit?.........oh no. but if by some miracle you become a millionaire out of your site and the labels believe that you've made more money than it costs to sue your pink little ass, then your in trouble. but i wouldn't really worry about it. i dj at clubs - never has infected mushroom's lawyer turned up with the PRS fining and asking the venue to pay performance royalties. uh uh!
