Guest Elysium Project Posted September 3, 2002 Posted September 3, 2002 Haven't tried it but what I have experienced with Cubase using a dual processor on a Mac is that Cubase VST 5.1 (and the latest Logic for that matter) aren't programmed to take advantage of dual processors and therefore don't seem to be working faster and better than on single processor computers. Correct me if I am wrong. Quote

I dont know if cubase does....... On NT you can check it with perfmon and "set it" using task manager .... For the rest i do know... nt=> ALL nt versions nt3.51 nt4 2k Xp etc. .... Bodhi Quote
Colin OOOD Posted September 3, 2002 Posted September 3, 2002 Cubase 5.1 and above _do_ support dual processors (they call it 'advanced multiprocessing') but only on Win2000 and XP; you won't see a hint of it on any dialogs if you're not running a multi-CPU capable OS. Colin Quote

Guest blink Posted September 5, 2002 Posted September 5, 2002 dual processors or smp (single-line multi processors) will work just fine like colin said for cubase 5+. but remember that the only microsoft OS that support it are nt, 2000, and xp (home and pro). also keep in mind that most programmers do not design software to take adnactage of multi-processing. duals and quad systems are primarily used in servers and graphic stations, so even if cubase will use them, your vsts probably won't. so if you are thinking this is a viable solution, and don't already have a dual cpu system, don't waste your time. investing in a good mobo with fast bus speeds (like the intel 400mhz rambus), is probably a better choice if you are working primarily in soft synths. your best investment (imho) for sound creation is a good soundcard, alot of good memory (i recommend a gig, www.crucial.com makes solid memory) and two monitors (and a vidocard that supports dual monitors). it seems high-end, but if this is your passion, what is more important? please no wise cracks about food and a roof over your head;) blink Quote
