has anyone had a go at the halion software sampler from steinberg. if so what do ya think of it?

Halion is actually a really useful and good tool for music. It's sorta buggy still and for some reason steinberg doesn't really pay attention to it. It's basically a full fledged hardware sampler. If your using a Pentium 4 processor beware of the spike problem. I'd only buy it if your gonna sample instruments in each note/key or buy sample cds to import into them. oh yeah, and the filters are kinda shitty, but still useable.

thanks for the info lifeform.

and yeah i was planning on buying sample cds to import into it. i'm kinda new to making music so i don't know if this is the best way to go, but i was thinking once i've got the program it's just a matter of buying new cds to update my sounds. thought it'd be good to start with anyway. and i've already got cubase so from what i understand i can sample one, say bass note, spread it out at different pitches across the keyboard and map out what i want to play in the cubase midi editor thingy. that was my thinking anyway. thanks again.

It's a little difficult to use (keyzones, etc). Look at Kontact.
